Mathematics students at St Patrick’s have been making their mark with strong results in two prestigious competitions.

In the Science Teachers’ Association of Queensland’s Problem-Solving competition, St Patrick’s students took out five of the six awards for students in Years Seven to Ten. Assignments completed by the students as part of their Semester Two assessment were submitted with the following results:

Year 7 and 8 Division

First Place              Grace Burbidge  (Year 8)        Masterchef

Second Place         Ellen Thorley  (Year 7)            Shapes and Designs

 

Years 9 and 10 Division

First Place             Jamie Mohr (Year 9)                   So You Think You Can Dance Mathematically!

Second Place        Charlotte Gugliotti (Year 10)     Building Bridges in Townsville

Third Place           Kanako Weightman (Year 10)    Building Bridges in Townsville

 

Well done to all five girls who will receive both certificates and monetary awards for their efforts.

 

Year Seven to Nine students in the Young Scholars’ program, also participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition with a number of students achieving significant awards.

LEGO League Robotics Competition

Congratulations to Year 7 students Taryn McCullough and Bella Broadfoot; and Year 10 Students Alice Wiegmann and Clare Alexander, who competed at the First LEGO League Robotics competition at the University of Queensland. These girls have been working very hard in Coding Club during Terms 3 and 4 to prepare for this competition.
