Saturday 1 February 2025<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Year 7 and 8 Nippers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It was another fantastic Saturday to start Term 1. With the new Year 7 Nippers getting involved with all things Shore Surf Live Saving at Long Reef.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nippers group competed in three events on Saturday in preparation for next week\u2019s Shore Carnival. Boys were also put through a series of board paddle events, both individual and in teams, to identify paddling techniques and build skills and strength on the nipper boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other than a few blue bottles, conditions were perfect for beginners both in and on the water. This current group of Year 7 and 8 students have shown skills in the water and on the sand and will be great additions to the Shore SLS team for next week\u2019s Carnival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Years 9 Intermediates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Year 9 Intermediate group trained as a separate group on Saturday, competing in several events, including flags, beach sprint relay, board race and swim race. They were put through their paces by coaches and given specific tips to employ in Saturday\u2019s Carnival. We are hoping that Knox, Barker and St Joseph\u2019s bring a number of Year 9 and 10 students to the Carnival to make for a highly competitive morning of events for our Intermediate group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the Carnivals, the Year 9 group will also be introduced to elements of their Bronze Medallion training course by Mr Nigel Scozzi over the course of Term 1 in preparation for the Bronze Medallion Award in Term 4 of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 10, 11 and 12<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Senior group (Year 11 and 12) successfully completed their Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (ART) Proficiency with Mrs Margaret Pearson, Long Reef Education Officer. We are very grateful to Mrs Pearson for her time and pleased that the boys are now fully up-to-date with their certificates for their weekly patrol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Bronze Medallion holders in Year 10 will be given the opportunity to complete the ART Certificate later in Term 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, on the beach, the boys competed in events all together and the Year 10 group managed to hold their own against some tough competition from the older boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, a huge congratulations to four Year 11 boys who have successfully attained the IRB Crewman\u2019s Certificate. Xavier Adamo<\/strong>, Ethan Adamo<\/strong>, Jackson Yeates<\/strong> and Charlie Martin<\/strong> gave up two days of their summer holidays to complete the course under the supervision of Long Reef SLS Club trainers. These boys will now perform an important function of their patrol team and can continue their training with a view to completing the IRB Driver\u2019s Certificate in the near future. Well done boys!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
