At CRU this week in the Christian Studies classrooms, we continued to discuss the book of Colossians. After we had received our weekly dose of sausages, Mr Kellahan gave a brief interview on his experience of being a Christian, highlighting his struggle with choosing between earthly riches and the riches of God\u2019s Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This segued into a talk on Colossians 3:1-16, with Isaac Lanham<\/strong> specifically talking about how you reshape your identity as a Christian. This comes from a heavenly mindset whereby we remember and know that Jesus is Lord of all. As a result, when people become Christians, their identity is changed and there is a desire to follow Jesus in their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Isaac then helpfully visualised the choice between earthly riches and God\u2019s riches with a MrBeast challenge \u2013 if you could choose between a Feastables bar or the chance of massive amounts of money, you would pick the latter. However, the Christian benefit is certain \u2013 the reason that we struggle so often is that earthly riches are so instantaneous. This effectively showed how much better in the long term it would be to have a heavenly mindset instead of an earthly one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Crucially, Isaac highlighted it was impossible to gain the best out of both worlds since your identity was moulded by your actions. For example, when you received a job at KFC, you couldn\u2019t come to work then in McDonald\u2019s uniform \u2013 likewise, as a Christian, you cannot hold onto earthly riches, with Colossians 3:5 telling us to \u201cPut to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature\u201d<\/em>. As a Christian, we had to make the choice between earth\u2019s pleasures and the kingdom of God \u2013 with the latter being long lasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moving forward, we will be continuing with CRU with Years 7 and 8 on Thursdays and Years 9 and 10 on Fridays.
