{"id":17686,"date":"2024-03-26T16:25:39","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T05:25:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/shore-weekly-record\/?post_type=article&#038;p=17686"},"modified":"2024-03-28T13:55:36","modified_gmt":"2024-03-28T02:55:36","slug":"swim-team-gps-5-carnival","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/shore-weekly-record\/article\/swim-team-gps-5-carnival\/","title":{"rendered":"Swim Team \u2013 GPS 5 Carnival"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Friday 22 March 2024 &#8211; SOPAC, Homebush<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Shore Swim team headed out to SOPAC for the final carnival of the GPS season, the big dance, GPS 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The year groups in attendance were strong in numbers and loud in support \u2013 and we thank you for your enthusiasm over the course of the evening. It lifted the swimmers in the pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been eight years since Shore has won a category. As the night went along, we were locked in a ding-dong battle with the black and whites, and the regular updates kept coming through, with some updates swaying in our favour and others favouring Newington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by <strong>Ethan Ng<\/strong>, <strong>Noah McLaren<\/strong> and <strong>Will Bestic<\/strong>, the Intermediates continued to show up time and time again, taking it to Newington at every opportunity, with the final result coming right down to the wire and a suspenseful wait after the carnival to see if we\u2019d been able to take out the title&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1st \u2013 Shore (537 pts).<br>2nd \u2013 Newington (511 pts).<br>3rd \u2013 Sydney Boys (431 pts).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17690\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy-225x150.jpg 225w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/57\/2024\/03\/Intermediate-Trophy.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Intermediate Trophy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notable Performances:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the evening, we also had some notable performances from the team, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>15s 4 x 50 metre Medley Relay<\/strong> \u2013 (<strong>Will Bestic<\/strong>, <strong>Sam Chan<\/strong>, <strong>Noah McLaren<\/strong> and <strong>Ollie Kelly<\/strong>) \u2013 broke the GPS Record, clocking a time of 1:56.71.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>15s 4 x 50 metre Freestyle Relay<\/strong> \u2013 (<strong>Will Bestic<\/strong>, <strong>Jonty Jagger<\/strong>, <strong>Ollie Kelly<\/strong> and <strong>Noah McLaren<\/strong>) \u2013 another GPS record tumbled. This was a record that was broken by Shore at GPS 1 this year (team of <strong>Will Bestic<\/strong>, <strong>Hugo Stewart<\/strong>, <strong>Jonty Jagger<\/strong> and <strong>Noah McLaren<\/strong>) \u2013 in a time of 1:41.52.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GPS team selections<\/strong> for the following swimmers who will represent the AAGPS at CIS Championships being held in early May:<ul><li>13s \u2013 <strong>Harrison Ayer<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>14s \u2013 <strong>Archie Lawry<\/strong>, <strong>Alex Freischmidt<\/strong>, <strong>Josh Svensson<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>15s \u2013 <strong>Noah McLaren<\/strong>, <strong>Will Bestic<\/strong>, <strong>Oliver Kelly<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>16s \u2013 <strong>Ethan Ng<\/strong>, <strong>Harry Pollitt<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>17s \u2013 <strong>James Bestic<\/strong>, <strong>Ethan Cook<\/strong>, <strong>Paul Russell<\/strong>, <strong>Daniel Becker<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This Shore Swim team has won two categories out of a possible four. It is an incredible achievement, and it has taken a team-first mentality in order to achieve.
