Shore Tennis Report: Shore vs The King’s School
Rain was predicted last weekend as well as a tough round against The King’s School. Thankfully, no washouts, but a tough match-up against our Parramatta friends nonetheless.
The Shore 1sts Tennis team had not won against King’s for years, but the team arrived at Northbridge ready to change that. It was down to the wire with both schools not knowing who would be triumphant until the final games. Our newly appointed Shore Tennis Captain, Sam Wensley was on fire. He proved his position as number one at Shore with a convincing singles victory 6-3, 6-3 as well as a doubles win. Zachary Little played a terrific match, displaying skill and grit but falling to his strong opponent. Overall, Shore 1sts won 5-4 in rubbers and we hope to continue this winning streak against Sydney Grammar this weekend.
A brilliant display of Tennis was present with the 2nds’ nail-bitingly close match, narrowly losing to King’s 4-5. Connor Fung had a standout performance showing his opponent a determination that was unmatched on the day. Connor was down 1-6 in the first set and then slowly rebuilt his composure coming back to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-2. Josh Cottee and Harper Cunningham won in a thrilling super tiebreak 10-8. Josh showed great patience in the tiebreak to clutch up for the win.
The Opens down to the Under 14s had a similar experience of matching up against the tough Kings teams. Ryan Gilmore has been a great addition to Shore Tennis and proved that by winning his singles match. Hugo Adams also was a sight to behold, displaying his experience on the court with a convincing 6-0 win. The Under 15Ds won all their rubbers and the Under 14Cs showed persistence despite the score not going their way. Well done to all the teams for an entertaining weekend of tennis.
