Saturday 2 November 2024
This week, we were excited to welcome both Knox teams and our opponents, St Aloysius College, to Northbridge Golf Course for our first time hosting the Combined Independent Schools Golf Competition Series.
After two weeks of fantastic weather, we were instead dealing with some light yet persistent rain that hung around in patches for most of the day. Our team this week consisted of Zach France, Thomas Gocher, Harrison Graetz and Archie Frewin.
All matches were tightly contested throughout, with some impressive golf being played by all players. Our top seed, Zach France, found himself down early as his opponent made a hole-in-one on the 2nd hole, a long par 3.
St Aloysius certainly turned up to play and were in a strong position at the halfway point. Both schools found themselves ahead in two matches, with Archie and Tom holding narrow leads while Zach and Harrison found themselves down 3 and 4, respectively.
Things would change from there, however, as Tom and Archie would extend their leads to win 3 and 1 and 4 and 2. Harrison also was able to find some form, winning 6 of the last 7 holes to win his match 2 and 1. Zach would also play some fantastic golf, overturning his deficit to win 3 and 2.
The rest of our players would compete in the Monthly Medal, a Strokeplay event, also at Northbridge GC. Matthew Goddard would finish the best of our competitors, shooting 14 over par for a net 62 on the par 64 course, finishing him 3rd overall in the medal. Luke Ellis would also overcome a slow start to shoot a net 64, featuring an excellent back 9 holes. Malachi Warner competed in the Stableford event and achieved an impressive 34 points.
Next weekend, our Matchplay team will head back to North Turramurra GC, this time to take on Barker College.
