CRU Update

I wonder if you have ever heard someone predict that someone else would be great? Perhaps it was a talented young athlete or maybe a musician. Did they actually live up to the expectations, or were they just another prospect who failed to make the cut?

This week at CRU we saw that God’s Word can be trusted as Jesus fulfilled all the expectations of what God has said in the Old Testament. Continuing our exploration of Luke and the Christmas narrative, we looked at verses 26-38 of Chapter 1 this week.

Nathanael Joukhador (Year 10) gave the talk, beginning with some examples of NBA stars who did not completely meet the expectations people had of them when they were emerging from high school. To follow this up, we were challenged by Nathanael’s question: can anyone possibly live up to expectations eternally? The answer is found in Jesus, who may not have been the King the people were expecting but was the one who fulfilled over 300 prophecies, showing that He is God’s chosen, eternal King. Nathanael pointed us to prophecies from Isaiah 7:14 and 2 Samuel 7:12-14 that are fulfilled in this passage, regarding the virgin conceiving and giving birth to a son named Jesus, who would be the eternal King. From this, we can have certainty that “no word from God will ever fail” (Luke 1:37). This is a great encouragement to us, as we know that no matter what happens, we can trust that God will keep His promises and whatever happens, Jesus will always be the King.

We look forward to continuing our exploration of Luke 1 next Thursday (Years 7 to 8) and Friday (Years 9 to 12). We would also love to see many boys in attendance at MegaCRU, which Shore will be hosting after school today from 4-5:45pm in the Smith Auditorium. It is a great opportunity to meet with members of CRU groups from other schools across Sydney and encourage one another to live for Jesus.
