Basketball Report

Basketball this week saw a tough fixture against Kings. The R A I Grant Centre was humming with most teams playing at home, while the lower Opens and 14s were treated with the long trek out to Parramatta.

In the Firsts, the Raschke Cup winners were always going to be a tough first match-up and this proved to be the case when the visiting team raced out to a 19-3 lead within the first few minutes.  Undaunted, Shore recovered well to 21-13 by the end of the quarter, but the gap would prove to be too much to make up for the men in white, with the team going down 62-80. Sam Guild continues to impress inside the paint, while Brandon Salis led all scorers with 16 points and Thomas Graetz provided the highlight of the game with a massive fast-break dunk late in the game.

The Seconds game was an arm wrestle from the start, with Shore leading 14-9 at the end of the first quarter before Kings surged back to lead at half and three-quarter time. With the game on the line, the boys showed real character to decisively win the last quarter 22-8, leaving Shore with a 59-48 overall victory. Nick Riley led the scoring with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, while Josh Ashton and James Boyd dominated in the paint with eight rebounds apiece.

Outside the competition teams, we had success stories across the School and out at Kings. Interestingly, a lot of the highlight performances came from Parramatta, where Harry Longes had a commanding 23 points for the 6ths and the 14s managed an impressive six out of eight wins. In the R A I Grant Centre, the 16Gs managed a nail-biting 2-point win thanks to a late scoring flurry by Joseph Steyn, while James Ellis went off with 12 points in a losing effort in the 15As.

Player of the Week: Addison Webster with a double-double and 13 points as the 14As raced to a 46-10 win over Kings

Team of the Week: The 9ths, who only just slipped to a 33-35 loss despite playing most of the game with only 4 players after a scheduling mishap.
