Saturday’s matchup saw Shore’s first vs hosting Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview (SIC). Both teams came into round 3 undefeated with a 2-0 record, though SIC got the better of the matchup and ultimately won 50-61.

It was an intense game in the Firsts fixture, filled with pressure defence and a fast-paced flow. Both teams, however, really struggled to make shots, and a real testament to Shore was the boy’s abilities to stay composed and fight, with a chance to win the game even though they shot the ball uncharacteristically poorly.

Ultimately, the game came down to the rebound count, with SIC dominating that statistic, allowing them to have many more opportunities to score and eventually tally up more points. Though the game finished at an 11-point deficit, it was much tighter and ultimately came down to a few possessions in the last 5 minutes of the game. Adam Awad led all scorers with 11 points.

Though the Second V lost a close game in Round 3, the boys played like absolute champions. Facing off against SIC – the clear favourites of the competition – Shore had them on the ropes and even led the game with 9 seconds to go. Shore created absolute havoc on the defensive end, turning SIC over and disrupting them with everything they did. The young Shore boys were relentless on the glass and strong on the interior, though SIC’s poise and maturity at the end of the match showed why they were the favourites – nailing 2 free-throws with 9 seconds left to retain the lead by 1. Hugo Flatman hit a huge 3-pointer with 90 seconds left to tie the game. Toby Ashton and Harvey Joyce led all scorers with 11 points.

Round 3 couldn’t have been a tighter matchup for the programme, with a combined record of 18-1-18

Player of the Week: Josh M – 17 points on his 17th birthday

Team of the Week: The 15H is round 3’s Team of the Week. Opening the fixtures at Shore with the 8am game, the boys came in ready to play.

For the first eight minutes, the game was tight and low-scoring, with each team missing multiple easy opportunities from close range. Halfway through the first half, the intensity and pressure got to the SIC team, and the H’s went on a 12-2 run. The second half was no different; the Shore boys turned the opposition over and created easy opportunities for each other through quick passes and unselfish play. The final score tally was H’s win 43-14. Oliver Farago and Jameson Open each led the scoring with 10 points.
