{"id":24882,"date":"2026-08-21T12:51:49","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T02:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/serviam\/?post_type=article&#038;p=24882"},"modified":"2026-08-21T12:51:49","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T02:51:49","slug":"premiers-university-of-sydney-mathematics-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/serviam\/article\/premiers-university-of-sydney-mathematics-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Premier\u2019s University of Sydney Mathematics Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Congratulations to Mathematics teacher, Jessica Magee, who was awarded the Premier&#8217;s University of Sydney Mathematics Scholarship at NSW Parliament House last week.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I am excited to share that I have been awarded the Premier\u2019s University of Sydney Mathematics Scholarship, providing an opportunity to undertake an international study tour focused on an area of mathematics education.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I am passionate about helping our students see mathematics as more than formulas and procedures. My study will explore how different educational systems teach students to approach unfamiliar problems, think critically, and persevere when there is no obvious solution. I am particularly interested in how these approaches can build girls\u2019 confidence and engagement in mathematics and encourage them to pursue university study in STEM careers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout April next year, I will be visiting schools, universities and educational organisations in Asia, to observe classrooms, speak with educators and explore different approaches to problem solving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Receiving this award at NSW Parliament House alongside my Mum, our principal Vivienne Awad, and fellow educators was truly special.
