The annual Year 7 Spelling Bee at St Ursula\u2019s was nothing short of electrifying this year, with eight eager competitors stepping up to the challenge. What began with nervous energy in the practice round quickly transformed into a tense, edge-of-your-seat contest that kept the audience captivated until the very last word.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the practice round, our eight students warmed up with words like <\/span>Union<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Diary<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Canopy<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>Autumn<\/span><\/i>. Though nerves were high, spirits were even higher as each competitor found their rhythm.<\/span><\/p>\n

The competition claimed its first exit in Round 1. In Round 2, words like <\/span>Muscle<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Pavlova<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>Origami<\/span><\/i> tested the group. The tension rose in Round 3 with tricky words such as <\/span>Temptation<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Insomnia<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>Dissect<\/span><\/i>. By the end of this round, three competitors were eliminated, leaving just three spellers standing. It was in Round 4 where the pressure mounted with the words <\/span>Alpine<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Granite<\/span><\/i>, narrowing the field to two finalists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The final showdown took place from Round 5 onwards. It was a head-to-head duel between 7.1 and 7.6. Both showed incredible composure, spelling words like <\/span>Immune<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Accident<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Museum<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>Chord<\/span><\/i> flawlessly. The audience held their breath as the rounds stretched on, Round 7 saw <\/span>Cruise<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Require<\/span><\/i> conquered with ease. In the decisive final round, 7.1 tackled <\/span>Override<\/span><\/i> while 7.6 faced the challenge of <\/span>Pergola<\/span><\/i>. With perfect spelling, Katerina Aoun (7.6) emerged as the St Ursula\u2019s Year 7 Spelling Bee Champion, with 7.1 Amber Herlihen earning a well-deserved runner-up position.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every participant should be proud of their performance, and the audience left inspired by the dedication of Year 7\u2019s finest wordsmiths.<\/span><\/p>\n
