Happy Feast Day to all in our St Ursula’s community

Happy Feast Day to all in our St Ursula’s community

21 October marks the feast day of our patron St Ursula

Like Angela Merici, we are truly inspired by her determined commitment to follow Christ; her faithfulness; her ability to bring large numbers of women together; her leadership of women; her stoicism in the face of opposition; her courage; and through her death and martyrdom, her dignity.

I can imagine a young Angela Merici sitting near the hearth in the family home in Brescia, listening to her father recount the story of this “larger than life” woman, a story of someone that would become for Angela the one she chose to be the patron of her Company of Women – The  Company of St Ursula – our Ursulines.

The same qualities exhibited in Ursula’s story are found in the story of Angela Merici and those who have followed the Ursuline way, including the pioneering sisters who came to Australia and those whose trust in God, whose courage and dignified leadership inspired the development of our College.

On her feast day, we acknowledge with gratitude all of those Ursulines who have come before us. We look to the future, to what will be our contribution to the enduring story of St Ursula and St Angela Merici.

We live as a community committed to the person of Christ; where the dignity of each person is treasured and where each member of the community is called to courageous leadership, always in the service of others.

Happy Feast Day!

Term 4 Begins

Term 4 has begun with great enthusiasm, as our Year 12 students put the final touches on their preparations for their Higher School Certificate examinations.

As I write this, several exams have already been completed. I am very grateful to all of our families for their support of Year 12 through our remote learning plans to cater to our very large examinations. It makes such a difference for our students to have a little extra space during these COVID impacted times.

Great news

While there will be some modifications to our usual practice to ensure all staff and students are kept safe, we are confident that the Year 7 Camp, Year 9 Camp and the Year 12 Formal will be able to go ahead this term. I am very confident that these events will be very much appreciated and enjoyed by our girls.

As we move through the next two weeks, remember the faithfulness to Christ, the leadership, the courage and the dignity of St Ursula in your everyday interactions with those you meet.

May God bless you and keep you and your loved ones,

Take care,

Mary Leask
