Internship opportunity – media and publishing

There is currently an opportunity for a student to be guest editor or interstate correspondent for the Australian Catholics magazine. First launched in 2011, the Australian Catholics media internship program offers students the opportunity to spend a week learning from Melbourne professionals in the media and publishing fields, while planning and writing articles for the Spring edition of the magazine. Students from interstate also have the chance to contribute to the edition as correspondents, and will hook up with our editors via phone or video conferencing.

The program is a unique work experience opportunity for students involved in media and publishing. Students have the opportunity to see how a magazine works, take part in the initial planning and brainstorming, and consider all the elements that make up an engaging publication. They then have the opportunity to work on their own articles for the edition – doing interviews, conducting research and exploring interesting ways to engage readers. During the week-long internship, the students also have the opportunity to engage with guest speakers: professional editors and journalists who have been working in the field for many years; younger media professionals who are starting out in new and creative ways; as well as hearing about visual storytelling from professional photographers and designers.

The 2020 internship program runs from 11 to 15 May. After the edition is published, students and teachers are then welcomed to a special launch event in late August. Applications should be submitted to Jesuit Communications no later than 13 March, via email at editor@australiancatholics.com.au

Application information for interstate and regional Victorian students.

Successful students will be notified by the end of Term 1.
