A challenge to think about our Christmas traditions

A challenge to think about our Christmas traditions

At our Advent Liturgy last Friday, our students were challenged to think about how some of our Christmas traditions, while not biblical, certainly are linked to our faith.

For example, did you know:

  • The American lolly maker that created candy canes made them in the shape of a shepherd’s staff, to remind us at Christmas, of Jesus’ love for us, as a shepherd cares for his sheep.
  • While most Christmas carols are not biblical in origin, a host of angels announced the birth of Jesus and so we also sing to celebrate at Christmas.
  • Christmas dinner reminds us that Jesus also ate and drank with his friends, and by sharing a feast together we are practicing for the feast in God’s Kingdom.

Thank yous and acknowledgements

A huge thank you to Mr McCrudden, Mrs Olsen, Ms Ganderton, Bethany in Year 8 and the Year 11 Music class for all their work to ensure we celebrated Advent with beautiful music.

Also thanks to all our readers from the Mirrabooka Committee and Mrs Morabito, who helped ensure we heard God’s word and prayed for our needs at the end of the term.

May God bless you and your families this Advent season.

I wish that the commemoration of the birth of our dear Lord and Savior will bring divine peace and favour to your lives at Christmas. I hope you have a Happy and Holy Christmas and healthy and prosperous New Year – stay safe and God bless!
