Letters of Gratitude<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Many people are concerned about environmental issues and are often prompted to write letters to politicians or companies to voice their concerns about what is happening. Last week as part of the Year 10 Social Justice program the Year 10, the students participated in a workshop to write letters of gratitude to five women who have made a significant contribution in working towards improving our environment.<\/p>\n

In groups they wrote about why they were grateful for our natural world, their feelings on climate change and their thanks to the person for their achievements. Another component of the workshop was creating a collage artwork for the recipient based around the work they were undertaking. The letter and the artworks will be sent to these women.<\/p>\n

Three examples of the students\u2019 artworks can be viewed below:<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Dr Adrianna Verges is a marine ecologist working on restoring Australia\u2019s underwater forests. The students titled the work The World we Live in<\/em>. \u201cIt represents the juxtaposition of our natural world being animals and plants with the pollution of oceans and waterways.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tanya Plibersek is our current Federal Minister for the Environment and Water. The students wanted to convey their appreciation to her of the vital work she is doing in this role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Janet Laurence is an environmental activist working through the medium of art. The students\u2019 artwork \u201crepresents the interconnection with the natural and the human world, and the potential of people to live in harmony with nature\u201d.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, you may be inspired to write a letter of gratitude to someone you admire who is improving our world.<\/p>\n
