{"id":885,"date":"2020-02-20T14:48:41","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T03:48:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/?post_type=article&#038;p=885"},"modified":"2020-02-20T14:52:01","modified_gmt":"2020-02-20T03:52:01","slug":"music-matters-4","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/article\/music-matters-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Music Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Scholarships to Awards and Eisteddfods\u00a0 &#8211; the Music Department is a hive of activity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2020 SCEGGS Music Eisteddfod<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Applications for the 2020 SCEGGS Music Eisteddfod are open to all students who are having voice or instrument tuition.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The SCEGGS Music Eisteddfod is a competition open to ALL musicians currently taking private lessons, inside or outside of school.<\/li>\n<li>Entry into the Eisteddfod is FREE.<\/li>\n<li>All Elective Music students are preparing for participation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Heats<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Heats will be held in Week 7 during regular Music class lessons for Primary students, Year 7 students and Elective Music students.<\/li>\n<li>All other heats will be held during regular class lesson time.<\/li>\n<li>Students will perform for the external, specialist adjudicator in a music studio &#8211; there is no audience.<\/li>\n<li>Due to timetabling restrictions, adjudicators do not provide written reports or any other feedback.<\/li>\n<li>The adjudicator\u2019s decision is final, and no discussion will be entered into.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Entry forms can be accessed on <a href=\"https:\/\/sceggs.instructure.com\/\">Cognito<\/a> or at the Music Department.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2020 Margot Anthony (Budd) &#8220;Beyond the Curriculum&#8221; Award<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The applications for the Margot Anthony (Budd) &#8220;Beyond the Curriculum Award&#8221; are now open.<\/p>\n<p>There are two awards given each year to Elective Music students from Years 8 to 11. Students need to demonstrate a developing musical interest in an area outside of their classroom studies. They also need to have a record of music tuition and successful examination results in at least one instrument or voice.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, students can access the information and application form on <a href=\"https:\/\/sceggs.instructure.com\/\">Cognito<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight\">\n<p><strong>Applications must be submitted to the Head of School by Friday 6 March 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Secondary Music Ensemble Rehearsals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Please be advised of the altered schedule for rehearsals in Weeks 5 and 6 as follows:<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Week 5 <\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Choir and Madrigals &#8211; Monday 24 February<\/p>\n<p>Basie Jazz Band &#8211; Thursday 27 February, P &amp; F Cocktail Party Friday 28 February<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Week 6 <\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Edwardes Percussion \u2013 Thursday 5 March<\/p>\n<p>Basie Jazz Band \u2013 Thursday 5 March and Open morning Friday 6 March (Great Hall)<\/p>\n<p>Ensembles are up and running!\u00a0 We are trying to finalise our rolls for the ensembles. If you haven\u2019t responded to the email sent regarding your involvement, please do so, or your name will be removed from the roll.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>SCEGGS Staff Learning Scholarship<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Mrs Anne Sweeney is one of two staff who were the recipients of our inaugural SCEGGS Staff Learning Scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>In Weeks 5, 6 and 7, Mrs Sweeney will be away in America to observe lessons in different schools and music institutions.\u00a0 She will travel to New York to visit Herricks High School as well as both the Julliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Mrs Sweeney will also travel to Orlando, Florida, for the 2020 American String Teachers\u2019 Association Conference. Placements automatically roll over unless you indicate that you will be discontinuing<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reminder that entries for the 2020 Eisteddfod close by the end of Week 5.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Write down the dates! 125<sup>th<\/sup> Birthday Music Workshops<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>To celebrate the school\u2019s 125<sup>th<\/sup> Birthday celebration, a special concert will be held in the Town Hall on the evening of <strong>Thursday 18 June<\/strong>. The concert will feature exciting pieces of music by Australian composers and will feature many of our ensembles.<\/p>\n<p>To facilitate preparation of this concert, the Music Department will be holding two workshops for the featured ensembles. The dates are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop 1<\/strong> \u2013 Monday 27 April (day before the commencement of Term 2)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop 2<\/strong> \u2013 Sunday 14 June (Sunday before the concert)<\/p>\n<p>Attendance at both workshops is compulsory for students who will be performing. We would appreciate your support with your daughter\u2019s regular attendance of rehearsals and for both workshops. Further information about each of the workshops will be provided closer to the time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight\">\n<p>The concert will be a wonderful celebration of the school\u2019s birthday.
