{"id":8332,"date":"2022-07-21T12:54:56","date_gmt":"2022-07-21T01:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/?post_type=article&#038;p=8332"},"modified":"2022-07-21T12:54:56","modified_gmt":"2022-07-21T01:54:56","slug":"music-matters-94","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/article\/music-matters-94\/","title":{"rendered":"Music Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Inter-House Music Competition \u2013 Congratulations!\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Congratulations to Langley, who are the winners of this year\u2019s Inter-House Music Competition.\u00a0 This year\u2019s theme <em>Musical Heroines<\/em> were met by all Houses with an eclectic selection of songs of varying styles.\u00a0 Langley had performed the following items for their winning performance:<\/p>\n<p>Small Ensemble: <em>Rolling in the Deep<\/em> by Adele.\u00a0 As described by the students &#8211; <em>Rolling in the Deep<\/em>\u00a0is a unique mix of gospel and disco that navigates between the need for both power and vulnerability as a female artist. It was awarded 2012 Song of the Year at the Grammys and is one of the best-selling singles of all time.<\/p>\n<p>Large Ensemble: <em>I Will Survive <\/em>by Gloria Gaynor describes the discovery of personal strength after a bad relationship, but its significance extends far beyond heartbreak- it has since become a powerful symbol of female empowerment as well as a beacon of hope in the LGBTI community. Since its release in 1978, it has been famously covered by the likes of Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross and will continue to inspire women for generations to come.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations also to:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Docker \u2013 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Place<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Christian \u2013 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Place<\/p>\n<p>The adjudicators for this year\u2019s competition, Dr Jo Lawry and Mr Simon Burke AO, thought all performances were of a very high standard and were impressed with the students\u2019 creativity with their musical arrangements.\u00a0 Well done everyone!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Sing And String Workshop with Eric Avery<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The SCEGGS Choir, Madrigal Singers and Amati Strings participated in a Sing and String Workshop this week with First Nations musician Eric Avery. Eric is a violinist, vocalist, dancer and composer from the Ngiyampaa, Yuin and Gumbangirr people of NSW. He works with his family\u2019s custodial songs and his haunting compositions often feature him singing while playing violin, predominantly in the Ngiyampaa language. Eric has performed with the Black Arm Band, the Byron Bay Bluesfest, as the opening act for Grammy Award winner Rhiannon Giddens and was awarded a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship in 2021. He has gained an international reputation, appearing alongside some of the greatest artists of our time, from Yo-Yo Ma to Tina Arena. We look forward to Eric\u2019s collaboration with SCEGGS choristers and musicians in performance at the NAIDOC Assembly on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Avery is the face of the current<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vaPCcg0OQMg\"> Optus ad that you may have seen on television<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Change of Date &#8211; SCEGGS HSC ENCORE Concert<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The date of the <strong>SCEGGS HSC ENCORE Concert<\/strong> has been changed to <strong>Thursday 25 August \u2013 Great Hall, 6pm<\/strong>.\u00a0 We look forward to sharing the Year 12 Class of 2022\u2019s music performances with the school community in this free concert.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All Elective Music students are also encouraged to attend this performance with their parents to experience and support the work of the senior Music students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Woodwind and Brass Concert Sign-Up: Term 3 Week 3 Thursday 4 August<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Woodwind and Brass students are invited to perform in the Woodwind and Brass Concerts scheduled in Week 3 on Thursday 4 August.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/wYijLvSKR3o8qeyeA\">Primary<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/hbTCTnhuvL1DEoww7\">Secondary<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We encourage students who learn at school, and students who learn externally to perform.<\/p>\n<p>These concerts will be held in the Great Hall.
