{"id":7268,"date":"2022-03-24T09:47:12","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T22:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/?post_type=article&#038;p=7268"},"modified":"2022-03-24T09:47:12","modified_gmt":"2022-03-23T22:47:12","slug":"music-matters-83","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/article\/music-matters-83\/","title":{"rendered":"Music Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>2022 SCEGGS Eisteddfod Highlights Concerts \u2013 Friday 25 March Great Hall<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Come and celebrate the musical talents of the 2022 SCEGGS Eisteddfod!\u00a0 TWO concerts will be held this Friday to celebrate the musical talents in our school community:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Primary Highlights<\/strong> concert: <strong>Friday 25 March at 4:30pm<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-size: 1.15rem;letter-spacing: 0px\">Secondary Highlights<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.15rem;letter-spacing: 0px\"> concert: <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1.15rem;letter-spacing: 0px\">Friday 25 March at 6.00pm<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A variety of awards are made at these concerts:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Outstanding Musician of the Primary School\/Secondary School<\/li>\n<li>Wran Prize for Up and Coming Vocalist (Secondary only)<\/li>\n<li>Acknowledgement Awards<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We look forward to your attendance at the Highlights Concerts.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Musicale 1 \u201cOf Foreign Lands and Places\u201d \u2013 Tuesday 29 March 6pm<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>You are invited to the Musicale 1 Concert held next Tuesday 6pm 29 March at the Great Hall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The theme of the concert is \u201cOf Foreign Lands and Places\u201d where a representation of musical ensembles from the SCEGGS Ensembles program will take you on a musical journey.<\/p>\n<p>The concert will feature the following ensembles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Year 7 Choir<\/li>\n<li>Clarion Band<\/li>\n<li>Primary Percussion Ensemble<\/li>\n<li>Chamber Strings<\/li>\n<li>Bugles Band<\/li>\n<li>Cantare<\/li>\n<li>Sinfonietta<\/li>\n<li>Primary Cello Ensemble<\/li>\n<li>Contemporary Strings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"highlight\">\n<p>Come on a musical journey with us next Tuesday night \u2013 we will depart at 6pm!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4><strong>Pedal Harp \u2013 Ilaria Roncolato\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7270 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2022\/03\/IlariaRoncolato_PedalHarp1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2022\/03\/IlariaRoncolato_PedalHarp1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2022\/03\/IlariaRoncolato_PedalHarp1-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2022\/03\/IlariaRoncolato_PedalHarp1-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Music Department welcomed the arrival of a concert pedal harp!\u00a0 The harp is a loan instrument from The Scots College, and this was organised for our Year 10 Elective Music student Ilaria Roncolato.\u00a0 Ilaria has learnt the harp since she was 6 years old and has upgraded to a concert pedal harp. This harp will stay at school so that Ilaria can easily access an instrument for Amati rehearsals as well as class performances.\u00a0 Thank you to Mrs Anne Sweeney (Director of Strings) and Mr Owen Torr (Harp tutor at The Scots College) to facilitate this loan.\u00a0 You can hear Ilaria play the pedal harp <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/690769904\/ea816c5f4a\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><br \/>\nARCO \u2013 Voyage of Musical Discovery \u201cDesign &amp; Innovation\u201d <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7271 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2022\/03\/ARCO_Concert1_1011-e1647916380391.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Year 10 Elective Music and Year 11 Music 2 students attended the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra on Monday 21 March at City Recital Hall.\u00a0 Students were treated to a performance of Edward Elgar\u2019s \u201cSerenade for Strings\u201d Op. 20 and Gustav Holst\u2019s \u201cSaint Paul\u2019s Suite in C Major\u201d Op. 29 No. 2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Students particularly enjoyed the second half of the concert that featured the piano music by prominent Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin.\u00a0 The program for this part also featured pieces of music that were written as a tribute to eccentric French composer Erik Satie.\u00a0 After the death of Satie, his friends discovered over 40 unposted love letters that he had written to his first love.\u00a0 The music that Elena Kats-Chernin composed were inspired by what these letters.<\/p>\n<p>The repertoire from this concert is supporting the Year 10 Elective topic 19<sup>th<\/sup> Century Music (Romantic) and 11 Music 2\u2019s mandatory study of \u201cMusic of 1600-1900\u201d.\u00a0 Students were accompanied by their class teachers Ms Chow and Ms Holmes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>K-2 Assembly Performances <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It has been lovely to feature solo musical performers in K-2 Assembly this term.
