It&#8217;s a shame we won&#8217;t be able to celebrate together at school this week, but I&#8217;m excited to see all the different ways SCEGGS will continue to\u00a0recognise, listen to, learn about, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practices and traditions. <strong><em>The\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>oldest\u00a0continuous\u00a0living culture in the world.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Although NAIDOC week occurs during the school holidays, it is not limited to that week, and encouraging conversations to take place throughout the year has the potential to be satisfying.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight\">\n<p>This years&#8217; NAIDOC theme is &#8220;Healing country&#8221;.\u00a0 We speak of this Country like a person, sustaining our lives in every aspect &#8211; spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Learn more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0m_hn78A7DE\">here<\/a> about Healing Country and what this theme identifies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><br \/>\nSome of the ways in which you can celebrate NAIDOC week are: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc\">\n<li>Support Indigenous Organisations such as IDKY \u2013 check out their <a href=\"https:\/\/idknowyourself.com\/merchandise\/\">merchandise.<\/a> 100% of profits go to supporting Indigenous children in out of home care.<\/li>\n<li>Discover the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbs.com.au\/nitv\/article\/2021\/06\/29\/meet-artist-behind-2021-naidoc-poster\">artist<\/a> behind the NAIDOC week 2021 poster.<\/li>\n<li>Learn more about the Country on which you live and work using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aiatsis.gov.au\/explore\/map-indigenous-australia\">AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Watch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbs.com.au\/nitv\/\">NITV<\/a>.\u00a0 Become familiar with it and what this platform offers.<\/li>\n<li>Watch a film such as &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uoDBvGF9pPU\">Top End\u00a0Wedding<\/a> a 2019 Australian romantic comedy film.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbs.com.au\/nitv\/article\/2021\/02\/08\/kid-laroi-youngest-australian-solo-artist-top-aria-album-chart\">The Kid LAROI<\/a> &#8211; Learn more about our first Nations artist (who even worked with Justin Bieber!).<\/li>\n<li>Listen to songs by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square\">\n<li>Budjerah \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lPsj-dWp9t8\">Higher<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Birdz \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zqHveR09eIc\">Fly<\/a> \u00a0ft. In its pages, author Professor Marcia Langton offers fascinating insights into Indigenous languages and customs, history, native title, art and dance, storytelling, and cultural awareness and etiquette for visitors.
