They received over 7000 entries into this prestigious national competition. We are so proud of each of the SCEGGS students who participated in this competition.<\/p>\n<p>In the Senior Secondary section of the competition:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Gabrielle Cunningham<\/em> <\/strong>(Year 12) was shortlisted for her poem <em>\u201cSo he says (but what does Helene Cixous Say?)\u201d<\/em> and Highly Commended for her poem <em>\u201cWoman: The Derivative.\u201d <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Eleanor Lawrie <\/strong><\/em>(Year 11) was Commended for her poem <em>\u201cFruit Bat.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Georgia O\u2019Keefe<\/strong><\/em> (Year 10 ) was also Highly Commended for her poem <em>\u201cImmortal Beauty.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Sophie Henderson<\/strong><\/em> (Year 7) was Highly Commended for her poem <em>\u201cStill Dreaming.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Congratulations to each of these students, this is a very impressive achievement!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Year 7 \u2013 10 Speech Night Prizes<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Each year SCEGGS invites students in Year 7 \u2013 10 to submit their creative fiction and poetry writing into the Betty Behan Memorial Prize for Short Story and Gwen Cockell Prize for Creative Writing (awarded for Poetry). Named in honour of an old girl and former English teacher, these prizes are awarded at Speech Night and are a wonderful way of celebrating the writing of our students. Winning entries and extracts of commended pieces of work are also published each year in the Lux magazine.<\/p>\n<p>Students are invited to submit work that they have completed in class, or which they have worked on independently over the year. Each year we are thrilled to have so many entries from the talented writers at SCEGGS. The closing date for entries is <strong>Term 4 Friday 25 October (Week 2)<\/strong>.
