This is the fifth year that SCEGGS has taken part in B Kinder Day in support of the B Kinder Foundation and what a joyous and inspirational day it was! The symbol for the day this year was a rainbow. As you can see in the photos there was certainly a lot of colour, smiles and laughter sprinkled over the Primary School on this day – A great way to put a spring in our step on a chilly winter’s day!

The overarching focus of B Kinder Day is always to connect as a community and to inspire people to be inclusive, respectful and kind. In conjunction with the theme, this year, we decided to zoom in on how being kind to ourselves can really impact the way in which we treat others. To do this, the girls explored the practices of gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. Activities included, playing the gratitude game to name what they’re grateful for, taking part in ‘Nature Eye Spy’ to be mindful of the beautiful natural environment around the school that is often overlooked and the writing of kindness pledges on the symbol of a rainbow. Each girl imagined ‘putting themselves in another person’s shoes’ to help them decide what acts of kindness could be truly helpful for their friends or family members.

The Year 6 girls worked with Kindy and Year 1 to support them in the writing of their gratitude cards. It was wonderful to witness the leadership, care and compassion the older girls demonstrated in their guidance of the younger students.

The day culminated in a K-6 Assembly in the Great Hall, which was adeptly led by the members of Kindness Committee. Throughout the assembly we heard how some teachers practice gratitude, empathy or mindfulness in their own life and some Year 2 and Year 6 students shared about their learning this term that aligned with the focus on kindness. A combined performance by the Chamber String & Percussion Ensemble was also a highlight!

I would like to acknowledge the contributions of the students in the Kindness Committee (Semester 1) and thank them for their help in arranging such a fabulous day!

Year 1 – Bianca Roncolato & Alice Zhang

Year 2 – Camilla Harvey & Temperance Kirchner

Year 3 – Gracie Johnson, Scarlett Scott, Estelle Sicari

Year 4 – Mila Easton & Grace McLaughlin

Year 5 – Arabella Conrad-Martin & Emily Lansdown

Year 6 – Jessica Grace & Amelia Mitchell

Sarah Johnstone
Deputy Head of Primary, Student Wellbeing

On the final Wednesday of Term 2 the Primary School celebrated B Kinder Day.
