A special thanks to Ms Holmes for organising this performance opportunity for over 40 pianists.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to Glennie Percussion Ensemble and their conductor Ms Jayne Groves who performed at Assembly this week. Their set-up filled the whole Great Hall stage, and their sound filled the whole Hall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Week 9 rehearsals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Most secondary school ensembles are cancelled in Week 9 due to House Music rehearsals. The Music Department has invited two very talented and experienced women to adjudicate the event.<\/p>\n<h5>\u00a0<\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Bev Kennedy<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Bev is regarded as one of Australia\u2019s leading Musical Directors &amp; accompanists, having worked on over 50 professional music theatre productions.<\/p>\n<p>Shows she has worked on include Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!, The Producers, We Will Rock You, The Lion King, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Chicago, &amp; Muriel\u2019s Wedding.<\/p>\n<p>She was assistant Musical Director for Simon Gallaher\u2019s Pirates of Penzance, which is the highest selling recording of a musical in Australian history &amp; a recipient of an Aria award for best soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently Bev has been working on the shows Tina, Heathers, Jersey Boys, and was Musical Director on Ave Q. She was also nominated for a Green Room award for her work as Musical Director on the Australian Premiere of Gutenberg the Musical. Bev is currently playing piano in the on-stage band for the musical Chicago at the Capitol Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Bev has accompanied international artists such as Joan Rivers, Grammy award winners Thelma Houston, Liz Callaway, and Sir Brynn Terfel and continues to play for local artists Trevor Ashley, Marina Prior &amp; Anthony Warlow. She is currently a consultant for the City of Sydney Eisteddfod &amp; the Talent Development Project.<\/p>\n<p>Bev also works as a regular performer on the Bravo Cruise of the performing arts, and in 2017 had the great honour of performing with Jose Carreras \u2013 one of the most successful recording artists of all time.<\/p>\n<p>Recently Bev had the honour of working with Tina Arena on the sellout show Evita and most recently played on the hit show Tina. In April 2019 Bev toured Australia with Grammy award-winning English dance duo Basement Jaxx.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Vanessa Scammell <\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Vanessa enjoys a diverse portfolio of work as a conductor of ballet, musical theatre, concert repertoire and opera.<\/p>\n<p>Her most recent engagements include five performances of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with the Sydney Symphony, a double bill (The Dream\/Marguerite and Armand) for The Australian Ballet, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 for the Melbourne Symphony and a concert version of Singin\u2019 in the Rain. She has conducted the Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmanian, Adelaide and West Australian Symphony Orchestras in programmes such as Vera Blue, The Bamboos, Kate Ceberano \u2018My Life is A Symphony\u2019, Birds of Tokyo, An Evening with Anthony Warlow, Love Actually, Casino Royale, The Man from Snowy River, To Barbra With Love and Opera in the Outback (for Opera Queensland).<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, she conducts all the major symphony orchestras in a variety of works.<\/p>\n<p>Vanessa\u2019s postgraduate study included a Masters in Conducting; she has been the recipient of the Brian Stacey Award and the Robert and Elizabeth Albert Conducting Fellowship for The Australian Ballet.<\/p>\n<p>Conducting credits include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>The Australian Ballet<\/strong><\/em>:\u00a0The Dream,\u00a0Body Torque,\u00a0Nutcracker, An American in Paris<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Opera Australia<\/strong><\/em>:\u00a0The Merry Widow,\u00a0My Fair Lady,\u00a0South Pacific,\u00a0La Traviata\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Musical Theatre<\/strong><\/em>:\u00a0Funny Girl\u00a0(Sydney Symphony Orchestra), Jekyll and Hyde, Sweeney Todd, Hello Dolly,\u00a0The Light in the Piazza,\u00a0The Producers,\u00a0Damn Yankees,\u00a0West Side Story,\u00a0Chicago,\u00a0The Phantom of the Opera,\u00a0Titanic,\u00a0CATS\u00a0and\u00a0Fiddler on the Roof.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Musicale 3 at Festival on Forbes<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This year\u2019s Musicale 3 will be held at Festival on Forbes, on Sunday 25 August.<\/p>\n<p>Every Primary and Secondary Music Ensemble will play during the day on one of three separate stages. A timetable will be circulated early next term so you can plan your day. We can\u2019t wait to entertain the SCEGGS community.<\/p>\n<p>Please be aware that the date in the school diary is incorrect. There will be no Musicale on Thursday 1 August.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5><strong>Bands (Clarion Concert Band, Holst Wind Ensemble) \u2013 Sunday 23 June<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Strings (Contemporary Strings) \u2013 Sunday 28 July<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Several SCEGGS ensembles have been enrolled to perform at the Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival this year. The Festival is a non-competitive event and rather than being ranked, all ensembles received a Gold, Silver or Bronze rating which reflects their level of achievement for the particular event level in which they have performed. All events are adjudicated by professional musicians and music educators. The legendary Barry Green from the USA will join Kees Boersma and Alex Henerey, both Bass players with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Barry Green is an internationally renowned Double Bass soloist, recitalist, teacher, performance coach and the well known as the author of the revolutionary book \u201cThe Inner Game of Music\u201d.
