Carmina Burana \u2013 Choral Collaboration with Sydney Grammar School<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Date:<\/strong><\/em> Thursday 16\u00a0May – Combined Rehearsal 2 & Performance<\/p>\n

Venue:<\/strong><\/em> John Vallance Hall, Yurong St, Darlinghurst<\/p>\n

Time:<\/strong><\/em> Meet at 5.00pm to get marked off the roll. Rehearsal will run until 6.15pm with the concert beginning at 6.30pm and ending at 8.30pm.<\/p>\n

Transport:<\/strong><\/em> Some students are choosing to study in the library and then walk to Grammar. Otherwise, public or parent transport to the rehearsal and then parent pick up from John Vallance Hall in Yurong St, Darlinghurst after the concert at 8.30pm.<\/p>\n

Concert Attire:<\/strong> F<\/em>ull winter uniform including blazer and tights.<\/p>\n

Musicale 2<\/strong><\/h4>\n

We are excited to announce that Musicale 2 will be taking place on Wednesday 5 June, with Katie Noonan as our guest artist.\"\"<\/p>\n

There will be many opportunities for our students to be involved and celebrate the musical talents of our community as outlined below:<\/p>\n

Secondary Ensembles Performing<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Year 7 Choir (all students in Year 7), Choir, Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, Madrigal Ensemble, Year 9 Rock Band, Secondary Jazz Combo, Holst Wind Ensemble, Basie Jazz Band, Amati Strings, Lux Strings.<\/p>\n

Songwriting & Musicale 2<\/strong><\/h5>\n

During the week of Musicale 2, we would like to feature a songwriter from each year group, with one or more songs to be performed in the Musicale. If you would like to be considered, please submit a draft of your song (it may still be unfinished) to Mr Gresham by Friday 24 May. Songwriting lessons are available for free on a Thursday afternoon, though these are not compulsory for consideration. Please come and speak to Mr Gresham if you have any questions.<\/p>\n

Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Several SCEGGS ensembles have been enrolled to perform in the Australian School Band and Orchestra (ASBOF) Festival this year. The Festival is a non-competitive event and rather than being ranked, all ensembles received a Gold, Silver or Bronze rating which reflects their level of achievement for the particular event level in which they have performed. All events are adjudicated by professional musicians and music educators. ASBOF is a wonderful opportunity for our SCEGGS ensembles to perform on stage, to hear ensembles from other schools and to receive inspirational advice and performance tips from the adjudicators.<\/p>\n

130 Years of SCEGGS \u2013 Hope Concert 2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In 2025, SCEGGS will celebrate 130 years. The Music Department has the privilege of creating a concert to celebrate this milestone.<\/p>\n

The concert will be held in the Sydney Town Hall on\u00a0Monday 23 June 2025\u00a0<\/strong>and the theme for the concert is \u2018Hope\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hope involves optimistic thinking and focusing on good things to come. We will collect and commission works that reflect the theme of hope.<\/p>\n

But we want\u00a0you<\/strong>\u00a0to be involved. We want to know what it is you \u2013 the students, staff, parents, and old girls of SCEGGS \u2013 are hoping for.<\/p>\n

Some examples might include equality, reconciliation, better care of the environment, and peace. Your responses will be shared with composers, and commissioned works will be created that reflect the things that the SCEGGS community is hoping for. You have 140 characters to let us know what it is you are hoping for. Go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All pianists are invited to perform a short, well-prepared solo. Pieces that exceed 4 minutes will be cut.<\/p>\n
