{"id":1104,"date":"2020-03-05T11:53:26","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T00:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/?post_type=article&#038;p=1104"},"modified":"2020-03-05T12:05:51","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T01:05:51","slug":"music-matters-6","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/sceggs\/article\/music-matters-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Music Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>The House Music\/Drama Festival<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The SCEGGS Great Hall was the setting for the first ever combined House Music\/Drama Festival yesterday!<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the following Houses for achieving the following places in the competition:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Docker \u2013 \u201cCruisin\u2019 for a Bruisin\u2019\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Badham \u2013 \u201cIf I Were a Boy\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Barton \u2013 \u201cHakuna Matata (She\u2019ll Be Right)&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Well done to all the Houses for their behind the scenes work and their preparation for the competition.\u00a0 There were many wonderful performances and everyone should be proud of what they have presented for the day!<\/p>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>2020 SCEGGS Eisteddfod News \u2013 Week 7 Heats Schedule<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The schedule is released this week \u2013 please check the Music Department and <a href=\"https:\/\/sceggs.instructure.com\/\">Cognito<\/a> for the time of your heats.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Adjudicators for 2020 SCEGGS Eisteddfod<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>We have been most fortunate to secure the following musicians to be the adjudicators for the 2020 SCEGGS Eisteddfod.<\/p>\n<p>Vocal &amp; Secondary Highlights adjudicator \u2013 Christine Logan<\/p>\n<p>Secondary Heats &amp; Highlights adjudicator \u2013 Judy Hellmers<\/p>\n<p>Primary Heats &amp; Highlights adjudicator \u2013 Kathryn Phillips<\/p>\n<p>Primary Highlights adjudicator \u2013 Diana Springford<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to sharing our students\u2019 performances with our 2020 adjudicators.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2020 Margot Anthony (Budd) &#8220;Beyond the Curriculum&#8221; Award<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A reminder that the applications for the Margot Anthony (Budd) &#8220;Beyond the Curriculum Award&#8221; must be submitted to the Head of School by tomorrow, <strong>Friday 6 March 2020.<\/p>\n<p><\/strong>There are two awards given each year to Elective Music students from Years 8 to 11. Students need to demonstrate a developing musical interest in an area outside of their classroom studies. They also need to have a record of music tuition and successful examination results in at least one instrument or voice.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, students can access the information and application form on <a href=\"https:\/\/sceggs.instructure.com\/\">Cognito<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>P&amp;F Cocktail Party &#8211; experience of French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba!\u00a0 The Viola and Double Bass were also eagerly embraced by many curious students who wanted to learn the difference between instruments to their Violin and Cello counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>At the conclusion of this week\u2019s &#8220;Try-outs&#8221;, students will be taking a form home to their parents to indicate the instruments that had their interest.\u00a0 We encourage a discussion to take place at home to see whether a routine of regular practice and learning can be part of the school and family routine.<\/p>\n<p>Students who wish to pursue lessons on one of the instruments that were on offer must <strong>return their forms to the Primary Music room or to the Primary Office by Friday 13 March<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Music Tuition Reminders:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A reminder for <strong>ALL<\/strong> students who are part of the Music Tuition (instrumental and voice) program to do the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secondary students must:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>advise their classroom teachers, <strong>at least 48 hours in advance<\/strong>, that they will be absent for a music lesson;<\/li>\n<li>understand that the class teacher has the right to ask the student to change their music lesson time if an excursion, incursion, test or assessment task is scheduled during that lesson;<\/li>\n<li>catch up on any missed work in their own time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Upcoming Events:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>SCEGGS Eisteddfod Heats<\/strong> \u2013 Commence Weeks 7 (check the noticeboard in the DB Centre and <a href=\"https:\/\/sceggs.instructure.com\/\">Cognito<\/a> for your heats)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Primary Highlights Concert<\/strong> \u2013 Tuesday 17 March 4.30pm, SCEGGS Great Hall<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secondary Highlights Concert<\/strong> \u2013 Tuesday 24 March 5.00pm, SCEGGS Great Hall<\/p>\n<p><strong>Musicale 1<\/strong> \u2013 Thursday 26 March 5.00pm, SCEGGS Great Hall<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pauline Chow<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Head of Music<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House Music\/Drama Festival The SCEGGS Great Hall was the setting for the first ever combined House Music\/Drama Festival yesterday!
