From Ms Allum

The energy and warmth of the SCEGGS community was palpable on Giving Day yesterday.

Seeing our older students looking after and playing with their younger peers with joy and care crystalises what being a SCEGGS girl is – it is about inclusion, belonging and kindness; I could not be prouder of each and every one of them.

I am enormously touched and grateful to see so many parents, Old Girls, staff and friends of SCEGGS support the Jenny Allum Scholarships. Over 328 people participated – my heartfelt thanks to you all!

I am also deeply touched by your messages of gratitude and support on the Giving Day website – they mean more to me than I can truly express.

Pippin

The set is in, the lights are up, the costumes are here, and the company of PIPPIN move into the technical and dress rehearsal stages over the weekend in readiness for Opening Night on Wednesday 12 November.

SCEGGS Drama will be presenting Stephen Scwartz’s Pippin in Week 5. The production will play from

Wednesday 12 November to Friday 14 November at 7pm, and Saturday 15 November at 1pm

Venue is the St Peter’s Playhouse

Pippin tells the story of young Prince Pippin, the child of Emperor Charlemagne, who is on a journey to find meaning and purpose in life. Various paths are navigated – war, hedonism, politics, and domestic life – but none seem to be fulfilling. The narrative is presented by a mysterious troupe of performers led by the charismatic Leading Players, who guide Pippin and the audience through the story.

When Pippin first premiered in 1972, America was in the throes of global social upheaval. The Vietnam War, the rise of the counterculture, the sexual revolution, the civil rights movement, the women’s liberation movement, and the search for spiritual renewal defined the era. Young people rejected the status quo and pursued alternative ways of living, seeking authenticity in communes, protest movements, and Eastern philosophies. Stephen Schwartz and Bob Fosse’s musical captured this restless spirit: a story about a young person who yearns for meaning.

We have created an engaging immersive experience which promises to be visceral and exciting, challenging actors and audience alike.

The company is comprised of:

Pippin: Josephine Grayden
The Leading Players: Juliette Clark, Ollie Bailey, Kiran Gallego
Catherine: Camille Asher
Fastrada: Nancy Newton
Berthe: Eva Ancher
Charles: Lucas Knox
Lewis: Arthur Roger
Theo:
Grace Katear

Ensemble:

Florence Furness
Zara Anderson
Adelaide Gilpin
Eva Giurtalis
Lily Ranson
Katerina Giannikouris
Alexandra Millin
Frankie Hayes
Olive O’Keefe
Reina Steiner Carrion
Perdita Taylor
Charlotte Self
Anastasia Kamper
Annika Bennett
Sky Barrington
Arlo Wirisinha
Caspar Dive

We are joined by students from Sydney Grammar, Cranbrook, and Newington.

We look forward to seeing you at Pippin.
