TAS Vivid Tour

TAS Vivid Tour

On Wednesday, June 4, students from Years 9-11 TAS courses embarked on an exciting night tour of Vivid Sydney. Despite the chilly, drizzly weather, spirits remained high, and the smaller-than-usual crowds allowed students to immerse themselves fully in the festival’s dazzling displays.

The night began at Customs House, a historically significant building that once served as the headquarters for the Department of Trade and Customs. There, students were greeted by Gill Minervini, Vivid Sydney’s Festival Director, who provided an insightful overview of how the festival’s stunning projections are conceptualised and brought to life. As the lights switched on at 6pm, students were treated to House of Romance: Dreams Collide, a breathtaking projection celebrating 20 years of Australian fashion powerhouse Romance Was Born.

Adding to the experience, students had the unique opportunity to meet Simon Connell, Creative Director and Co-founder of immersive studio Supergiant, along with junior designer Jordan Sykes. Jordan shared her inspiring journey, from receptionist to designer, highlighting the importance of perseverance and passion in creative careers.

The tour continued through The Rocks and into Barangaroo Headland, where students explored interactive installations and marvelled at Vivid Sydney’s striking light projections. The evening concluded at Barangaroo, where students gathered around fireplaces for warmth or enjoyed a round of neon table tennis, an unforgettable way to wrap up an inspiring night of creativity and innovation.

A great night was had by all as students explored the magic of Vivid Sydney, a festival that brings art, technology, and imagination to life.

A special mention goes to our talented Year 8 student, Zara Pulley, who entered the Vivid: Colour The City competition, with her work being projected onto the ASN Clock Tower, an incredible achievement. Well done!
