Secondary Sport News

A big welcome to everyone who is new to SCEGGS sport in 2025. It has been a busy time in the PDHPE Department as we get ready to commence our Term 1 Sports. Please be patient as we await final draws and match times from our various associations. We are still finalising teams and once complete will upload everything onto Clipboard.

Secondary Swimming Carnival

Wednesday 5 February
at 9.30am – 2.30pm
Lane Cove Aquatic Centre

Please find the link to the program for Wednesday here.

Travel Arrangements

All girls must come to school (by 8.15am) in correct sports uniform and travel on the buses to the carnival. Students are not permitted to travel directly to the carnival.

Girls will meet their Form Teachers at school in the morning and have their name marked off, before moving to the buses at their specified time. Form Teachers will travel on the bus with their class.

The Carnival will finish just before 2.30pm. All girls will travel back to school on the buses unless a written permission note or email has been provided to the Form Teacher well in advance of the day of the carnival. If they have parental permission, students may be dismissed at the conclusion of the carnival, after consulting their Form Teacher. Parents should collect students from Little St near the Pottery Green Oval parking area.

Uniform

Girls must wear correct sports uniform to and from School on the day of the carnival. They may change into other decorative House attire once they arrive at school, before Form time. No girl is to travel to or from School in any clothing other than their correct sports uniform. Girls should swim in the SCEGGS swimming costume or approved race suit, and Swimming cap.

Be SunSmart: Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide!

All students must bring a SunSmart hat, 50+ sunscreen, sunglasses and a light long sleeve top for further sun protection when not swimming. If it is cooler, we would also recommend a light jumper.

Lunch and refreshments

There will be no canteen facilities available. All girls must bring enough food and drink for the day.

Parents and spectators

Spectators will be permitted at the carnival.

General

There are to be no mobile phones, laptops, chewing gum or face paint (coloured zinc for sun safety is permitted).

Girls are to move to their allocated House area when they arrive at the pool.

Attendance at the Carnival is compulsory. Girls unable to attend on the day are required to submit an explanatory note to their Form Teacher.

The most important contribution on the day is each girl’s support of her House.

Girls must adhere to the pool rules – no running, pushing, bombing, hanging on lane ropes, unsafe or disruptive behaviour.

Wet Weather

Be fully prepared for wet weather – bring umbrella and/or raincoat.

In the case of extremely wet weather or thunderstorm/lightning, a decision will be made at school on the morning of the Carnival. All girls should have some basic equipment with them (eg some paper and their pencil case) to participate in Day 8 lessons in the event the Carnival does not proceed.

Please Note

On the morning and afternoon of the Swimming Carnival, there will be NO Secondary Sporting co-curricular activities (with the exception of gymnastics which is optional). There will be some matches for Sydney Indoor Hockey in the afternoon/evening.

Music ensembles will still rehearse.

SCEGGS at Play

Do you have any sporting news or photos to share in the Green Gate?

We love seeing our students being active and want to celebrate their passion and enjoyment amongst the SCEGGS community. Please send in any action shots from the weekend and any other interesting sporting highlights to Alison Gowan.

SCEGGS Training sessions before and after school plus Saturday Sport

Any cancellations or adjustments will be made in Clipboard and families will receive a notification or email when changes are made. Please ensure you have notifications enabled.

All Clipboard notifications will now come through the SCEGGS App too, so if you have been receiving notifications from Clipboard (eg when sport is cancelled due to wet weather), you will need to download the SCEGGS App to ensure that you continue to receive these push notifications.
