Get to know our experienced team of staff at the College! Meet Mrs Virginia Hand, Senior School Teacher Librarian, who joined the school in 2021.
This week, as the College announced its plans for growth in 2022 and launched the theme of ‘Pursuing Tomorrow’, the school is privileged to welcome the expertise of Mrs Hand as she looks at leading the Senior School library into its’ next chapter.
With impressive experience in both International and Australian schools and universities, Mrs Hand has recently returned from a leading international school in Hong Kong where her mission was to establish a school library collection and library program from its’ infancy to what it is today, a three-tier library – primary, middle and high.
“I am looking forward to leading the Senior School library forward as the College grows and expands. I believe a quality school library within a twenty first environment includes instructional leadership, curriculum design and providing information in the form of books (print and digital), academic databases and online resources. I am excited to keep building on learning opportunities through integrated and innovative approaches to information literacy and critical and creative thinking in flexible, collaborative and innovative spaces”.
Mrs Hand says, “I am passionate about promoting and nurturing a love for reading, providing opportunities for users to engage in literature enrichment. I believe that everyone is a reader but not everyone has found books they love yet. I am passionate about matching books with readers. I endeavour to guide students in developing their identity as readers through reflection and by modelling my own reading life”.
“Having recently returned home to Australia, I feel blessed and excited at being able to develop my skill set further at Shellharbour Anglican College in an innovative and dynamic role in such a positive and caring community, based on Christian faith”.
