Junior School Taronga Visit
To celebrate the book week theme Curious Creatures, Wild Minds the whole of the junior school from prep to stage 3 took part in a virtual visit to Taronga Zoo. We met the amazing zoo keepers from Taronga who told us some very interesting facts about the creatures we saw. Prep to Stage 1 visited the rainforest room and some of the animals they met included a white lipped tree frog, a tortoise and a very cute family of tamarins. We especially loved seeing the ring tailed possum that we got to see eating her lunch. Stage 2 and 3 headed to the desert. They discovered curious information about the bearded dragon, a tortoise and the highlight the bilby. Mrs Luke and all the teachers were very impressed with the interesting and engaging questions students asked.
Sue Whiting Book Week Visit
We started our book week celebrations with a wonderful visit from local author Sue Whiting. Sue shared stories and how she writes with students from Prep to Stage 3. Prep loved hearing Sue’s storytelling of Veronica Who Lived in A Vinegar Bottle. It was fantastic to see Prep joining in the repetitive lines in the story. Kinder and Stage 1 spent time looking at Sue’s latest picture book Good Question, A Tale Told Backwards. The students loved seeing Sue disappear into the story thingy and then reappear as a book character. Stage 2 were totally engrossed in Sue’s Antarctic adventure story just before she tricked them with a cliff-hanger ending. Stage 3 enjoyed hearing about Sue’s new books Missing and Book of Chance. Many of our students asked how to become a professional writer and Sue encouraged us to keep writing, persevering and imagining.
