Head of Junior School
Last week the Junior School held its annual Athletics Carnival at Myimbarr sports fields. It was one of the first opportunities to have parents and family members come and join in a carnival and the beautiful weather added to the relaxed and cheerful feel to the day.
Track and field events are a bit like life in some ways. Your skill is on show and there are others trying to get ahead of you, higher or further than you. It’s very obvious to others if you are at the front of the pack or at the back, and it’s often up to factors beyond your control, such as your body shape and size (something we can blame our parents for!) Not everyone is a winner at the carnival! Very few have the super power of Dash from The Incredibles. Most are pretty average, just giving things their best shot. And that’s what makes carnivals such a great day – We celebrate those who have speed, strength and power, and we enjoy cheering those who are giving it their best shot – even if they fall on their face and have to get up and come in last. There will be something we are really good at in life. It may be running, being a friend, creativity or maths. It may be leadership or faithfulness, singing or listening. Part of a great community is recognising this in others and cheering them on. And that is what our school does well.
