Head of Junior School
This is me, as painted by four year old Willow in Prep. I think the likeness is pretty good but I’m not so sure about the hair growing out of the ears or the skinny legs. Grey hair, glasses, wrinkles and a smile – love it. It has pride of place in my office.
Visual Art is personal, often intuitive and open to interpretation, whether the artist is very young or quite old. It comes from within and represents the world as the artist sees it. What I love about art in the Junior School is how the students are given the techniques and skills to make art meaningful. Not only does every class teacher see art as a vital part of learning, but art is celebrated. Walk in to any Junior School classroom and it’s a gallery in its own right.
This coming week we will be enjoying the IPSHA Travelling Art Show, a collection of children’s art works from many other Independent schools in NSW. Inspiring, creative and high quality, with some of our students also represented. So I say, keep the art flowing!
