From the Middle School
From the Head of Middle School Jenny O’Donnell
As the term draws to a close, we are still very busy in Middle School with lots of opportunities for the girls to get involved. On Wednesday morning, a number of Middle School volunteers joined the Hornsby Ku-ring-Gai Domestic Violence Network and various other community groups, including Rotary, Women’s Shed and PCYC, at an event called ‘Walk the Talk’ to mark the United Nations 16 Days of Activism and the International Day for elimination of violence against women. The event was a 20-minute walk around the PCYC at Waitara, followed by a community event with local MPs and community leaders. I am so proud of our girls and how they represented Pymble at this important occasion. The SRC 7-12 have been busy providing lots of festive activities across lunchtimes such as a movie screening, gingerbread house decorating and a teachers versus students trivia game. Great to see everyone getting involved.
Another great opportunity is outlined below by one of our Year 8 First Nations students, Havana Greentree-Fuller:
Over two days this week, the First Nations students participated in a cultural workshop called Ochre Up run by my cousin Alicia Frail, a proud Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi woman from the Central-West and North-West of NSW. The workshop was a way to explore identity, belonging with deep conversations. We worked with ochre from Country and did a fun photoshoot. I loved dressing up and taking photos with my family. I also liked connecting with other students and realising family connections. I was nervous before the day started and didn’t think I would enjoy being in front of the camera, but I found a strength I didn’t know I had. I felt connected to my culture and enjoyed working with ochre. I felt comfortable and so proud throughout the day. I can’t wait for the exhibition in Term 1 of next year. I am excited to do more learning programs like Ochre Up in the future.

Over the weekend, I got invited to an art and poetry ceremony in Melbourne (Oz Kids) where my artwork titled ‘Australia’s Brushstroke’ won the Middle School age category. My painting was auctioned, and $150 dollars went to the ‘Children’s Charity Network’. I was very excited to see this event unravel and I would like to share this news with you guys.

Congratulations to Lily Zhang of Year 7 for her recent results in the 2025 Australian Mathematics Competition: Best in School, Cheryl Praeger Medal and the AMC Medal Junior Divison.

We are all looking forward to the Secondary School Speech day next Wednesday and do hope that you can join us in celebrating what has been a wonderful year in Middle School.
