goIT Girls Work Experience program with TATA Consultancy Services (TCS)
About goIT Girls work experience program
The goIT Girls program is a week-long work experience program aimed at female students in Years 10 and 11. At TCS, we are empowering students in Australia and New Zealand with the skills they need to be ready for the workplace of the future. Participants will meet senior executives from TCS and from our client organisations. These executives will provide insight into the various STEM roles that exist across the business spectrum, with the hope of inspiring a new generation of innovators, problem solvers, and technology professionals. The aim is to provide insight into the existence of gender occupational stereotypes in the technology industry in order to challenge and eventually overcome them.
goIT Girls has four areas of focus:
- Provide insight into the technology industry, and the application of technology in business.
- Challenge gender stereotypes by showcasing women role models in STEM.
- Build technical skills through solving simulated business challenge.
- Enhance confidence and employability skills.
Students can expect to undertake workshops covering Agile Methodology, Design Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, Interviewing and Presentation Skills, Innovative Technology, Diversity and Inclusion, as well as hearing from leading Women in Technology from TCS’ client network and Chatting to Mentors from TCS. Students will also undertake a business challenge set by a major TCS client to apply their new skills and understanding, with the program culminating in a pitch event.
Eligibility
This is a free program for female students in years 10-11 enrolled in Australian schools. The program is aimed at young women who are curious about a career in technology. Students do not need any prior experience with technology to participate.
“I loved this program, the people and the stuff we were learning and doing it was just so amazing and was just a lot of fun.” – a goIT Girls participant.
“Before attending this program, I had a very biased perspective on what jobs were available in the tech industry but now, after sessions where other females working in this field haven shared their own stories, I realised that there are many more options than stereotypical jobs” – goIT Girls participant.
