From the Boarding School

From the Boarding School

We are so fortunate in Boarding to enjoy the company of girls from around the world. Celebrating the various cultural traditions is a real treat and the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of our favourites! Also known as the Moon Festival, the celebration is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture, with a history dating back over 3000 years. While we were a few days early in our celebration, our Boarders didn’t hold back in making the most of the special occasion. My thanks go especially to Boa Kim, Gina Lau, Rain To and Sophie Zheng who went all out to plan activities, treats and a delicious banquet menu.

Congratulations to our netball superstar

Our fabulous Year 12 Boarder, Grace Whyte  has been selected as a member of the Australian Under 21 Netball Squad. Grace will travel to the Australian Institute of Sport today to begin preparations with the team. I know you will join us is wishing her well.

Boarders’ Parent Group Meeting

Our Term 3 Boarders’ Parent Group meeting takes place on 15 September commencing at 2:00pm in Lang House.  This is your chance to hear about the latest developments in Boarding. You will be finished just in time to greet your daughter as she arrives home from school.

And why not cap off a great day with a night out with our Boarding family? I am delighted to say that we have had a great response to the Press Club event but there is always room for more. Please click the following link to join in the fun.

For those of you who are keen to make the most of the evening, Edwina Beveridge has booked a table at the Pymble Pub for those who would rather a steak than a Boarder sausage sizzle. Please let Edwina know if you would like to join in by email at   edwina@blantyrefarms.com.au.

Garden Party Ready!

Garden Party is quickly sneaking up on us. We are still looking for some wonderful people to give an hour of their time either from 1.00pm to 2.00pm, or 2.00pm to 3.00pm next Saturday. Seeking barbecue cooks or servers, produce sellers and help for the Cider Bar in these time slots in particular. (Please send me a text on 0428281373 or add yourself to an empty spot by clicking here.)

We are also keen to have as much local produce as possible – honey, jams, fruit, seeds, nuts, cotton, herbs, flowers, cakes and slices, etc. Any non-perishable items can be delivered directly to your daughter’s Boarding House and we will make sure they are stored safely ready for Garden Party day. Fresh items can be brought directly to Marden Lawn on the day of Garden Party.

Love It – Mrs White, Deputy Director of Boarding

Last weekend we began our preparations for Garden Party with a Rocky Road production line on Friday and candle making on Saturday.  Congratulations to all our Boarding ballerinas who started in the ‘Polar Bear King’, a fantastic evening enjoyed by many of our Boarders. Sunday was a fun trip to Macquarie for ice skating.

This weekend we have had a change to our advertised Love It program.  We will continue with the Garden Party productions in Boarders Get Baking on Friday, and we will be heading to the movies on Saturday night to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. Perfectly timed for some beautiful weather on Sunday, we will go to Palm Beach for a walk up the headland and hopefully a spring dip in Pittwater.

I have included some photos of last week’s Father’s Day workshop and the wonderful creations that the girls created for their Dads along with some snaps from the ice skating adventure for your enjoyment.

Eat Like a Boarder

I hope you can join us for dinner on Monday 9 October at 6.00pm, when you return your girls from the Term 3 break. This will be the ‘real’ experience, with you being able to enjoy the regular dinner service, just as the girls do each evening. If you would like to join us please rsvp to boarding@pymblelc.nsw.edu.au.

View From My Window

My name is Belle Burke and I am a Year 8 student at Pymble. I have boarded at Pymble since the start of Year 7. I live on a small property half an hour out of Scone. I live with my mum (Larissa), my dad (Michael) and my three younger siblings (Paddy, Lachie and Clem). On our farm we have animals such as cows, horses, chickens, a few sheep and dogs.

Scone has a population of 5,000 people and is around 3.5-4hrs away from Sydney. My mum’s a doctor and my dad is a real estate agent so they both work in town.

The thing I love most about living in Scone is having a close community and knowing lots of people there. I like water skiing in the summer with my friends and family. My favourite view from my window would be looking out to the mountains and creeks from the back of my house and seeing the cows grazing in the paddocks. I love spending time with my family, friends and pets when I go back.

I love returning to Boarding because it means I get to see my friends. We all live in different places so we don’t really see each other during the holidays that much. It is a lot of fun coming back to see them.

Boarder of the Week

Poppy is a delightful Year 7 Boarder who joined us from Narromine this year. Since she arrived, she has been one of our keenest Boarders and her happy face is always one of the first that staff members see when they wake in the morning. She is up bright and early, in perfect uniform, ready to tackle the day. Poppy’s warm nature and big heart helped her to make a lovely group of friends easily, and she was nominated for Boarder of the Week by one of her Boarding sisters. Here’s what she had to say about Poppy:

I would like to nominate Poppy to be Boarder of the Week because of her kindness. She is always around for a helping hand – for example, she unpacked the whole dishwasher with other people’s dishes so no one else had to. She always gives without anything in return. She is so many little things that mean a lot to all of her Boarding sisters and staff, and she really deserves to be our Boarder of the Week.

We couldn’t agree more – Poppy is often there to lend a helping hand and she has worked hard to find her place as a Boarder that those around her admire and want to spend their time with. Congratulations Poppy!
