Over the last two weekends, 13 Pymble students competed at AJ Rae & Ra White Schools Teams fencing event and the Roberta Nutt Under 14s and Under 16s competition.

At the Schools Team fencing in the Epee team event, both Pymble teams competed well. Pymble A (Alexandra Hargraves (Year 9), Penelope Hargraves (Year 7), Sophie Ngai (Year 9), and Elysia Sun (Year 10) secured the second position, however, lost narrowly to MLC with a score of 43 to 45 in the final. Pymble B (Selina Huang (Year 10), Rosa Kim (Year 10), and Anita Kang (Year 7), achieved third place, displaying great skill during the competition which they have been working on in training.

In the Foil teams event, Pymble were represented by Renee Leung (Year 11), Sophie Ngai (Year 9), and Candice Zhou (Year 7) and were undefeated, securing first place. Their outstanding performance in the match against MLC B was particularly impressive as Renee scored 11 hits in the final two minutes to lead Pymble to victory after a six-point deficit.

Well done to Sophie Ngai (Year 9) for her efforts in competing in both the epee and foil events.

In the Epee Under 16s category, Alexandra Hargraves (Year 9) and Penelope Hargraves (Year 7) secured third position. Tala Gubara (Year 9) achieved sixth position after some hard fought bouts, Anita Kang (Year 7) finished seventh, and Ariana Azizmohammad (Year 8) finished tenth. It was the first time Tala and Ariana have competed, and their commitment and enthusiasm for the sport was unwavering.

In the Epee Under 14s category, our Pymble fencers displayed remarkable skills, supporting each other during their bouts. Ariana Azizmohammad (Year 8) and Penelope Hargraves (Year 7) performed exceptionally well, securing victories in their respective poules, finishing at 5th and 6th positions respectively. Despite a last minute tie, Anita Kang (Year 7) unfortunately lost in the priority minute, finishing 8th place overall. The team exhibited significant growth from morning to afternoon, which is truly commendable.

A shout out to Alexandra Hargraves (Year 9) for volunteering as a referee for the Under 14s competition.

Sophie Ngai (Year 9) and Candice Zhou (Year 7) performed exceptionally well in the Foil event, winning two of their poule bouts, however, their first direct elimination round pitted them against each other. After showing great sportsmanship in their bout, Candice finished in 8th place, while Sophie finished in 9th place overall.
