Drama Curriculum Showcase

Our recent Drama Curriculum Showcase was a remarkable success! I want to take a moment to thank everyone who attended for your warm comments and thoughtful feedback. Your support means the world to our students and truly adds to the sense of community we build through drama.

The Year 9 students took us on a heartfelt journey through “Performing Australia,” a unit focused on the nation’s multicultural identity. Each performance was rooted in personal stories and experiences shared by students and their families, woven into powerful narratives that captured the diversity of living in Australia. Through these performances, the students conveyed themes of belonging, migration, and the vibrant cultural tapestry that defines our nation. It was wonderful to see the students put so much of themselves into their narratives, and their personal stories really resonating with you. The way they brought their families’ experiences and cultural heritage to life on stage was nothing short of moving, and I couldn’t be prouder of the growth they’ve shown, not just as performers, but as storytellers who understand the power of their own voices.

Year 10s “Political Theatre” performances were brave, bold, and thought-provoking. Tackling difficult, often uncomfortable topics with such care and maturity is no easy task, but they took it in stride. The way they used drama to challenge and question the world around them shows just how powerful theatre can be.

The showcase concluded with outstanding work from our Year 11 students, who had been studying “Herstory.” This unit celebrated the remarkable contributions of women in fields such as music, film, dance, literature, and politics. These performances were a fitting tribute to the trailblazing women who have shaped our world, and the passion and dedication of these students brought these stories to life with incredible skill, creativity, and maturity.
A special mention goes to three brave Year 11 students who performed their monologues for the audience, each delivering truly memorable and powerful performances. Well done to Claire McPherson, Darcey Hawkins, and Genevieve Hartin for their moving and strong work on stage.

Claire McPherson impressed with her emotional depth in “The Almighty Sometimes”, Darcey Hawkins captivated the audience with intensity in “Bottleneck”, and Genevieve Hartin delivered a standout performance in “The Libertine”. These young actors displayed incredible talent, and their dedication to their craft was evident in every moment.
As their drama teacher, watching these young performers grow in confidence, skill, and dedication to their craft has been an absolute privilege. This showcase was a testament to all the hard work they’ve put in, and I know many of you could see just how much this subject means to them. Thank you again for your unwavering support, it means more to us than you know. I can’t wait to see where their talent takes them next!
