Australian U20 and Opens Championships
Following the huge success of the Australian Junior Championships, attention turned to the U20 and Opens Australian Championships – and our girls did not disappoint.
Our 2025 Captain of Athletics (Track), Samara Bond (Year 12), delivered a standout performance, finishing strong to claim silver in the U20 400m. Adding to her achievement, Samara was called up at short notice to compete in the open mixed 4x400m on the final day of the championships, where she anchored the NSW team to bronze.
In the gruelling two-day U20 heptathlon event, Sarah Lovell (Year 12) showcased grit and consistency across all seven events to finish an impressive fifth. Meanwhile Sybella Warton (Year 12), competed up in the open Para 100m and 200m setting personal bests and being a finalist in both events, a fantastic achievement.
We were excited to see several of our current coaches and Pymble alumni in action. Among the familiar faces were Olympians Kristie Edwards, also a current K-6 coach, who claimed silver in the 200m, and Mackenzie Little, who took out gold in the javelin. A special congratulations as well to our own Athletics Co-ordinator, Samantha Dale, who was crowned national champion in the long jump.
As we celebrate the outstanding performances of the athletics, our focus shifts to the final preparation for igsa Cross Country. With our final trial taking place on Tuesday 6 May, I strongly encourage all girls to attend. Let’s give our best over these next two weeks to ensure we’re ready to defend our igsa champion title.
