Army Cadets

AFX

During the first week of the Term 1 holiday, the PLCCU conducted their AFX (Annual Field Exercise) at Marrangaroo Training Area, NSW. This six-day camp was a wonderful opportunity to put the theoretical lessons the cadets have learnt over the term to the test, with activities including navigation using a map and compass, dealing with various medical scenarios, radio communications and much more. Each day was packed full of games and activities and all meals were freshly prepared, with toast and cereal for breakfast, sandwiches and wraps for lunch, and dinners like burgers, nachos and pizza, catered for by our amazing staff.

AFX was a great opportunity for cadets and their rank to get to know each other better. It was lovely to see some of the younger cadets and recruits volunteering and getting involved in the activities, with their seniors guiding them. Many cadets had never been on an AFX before, so it was great to see the CPLs and SGTs stepping up and getting them as involved as possible. This strengthened the bonds within the unit and opened new friendships for many others.

The theme for the camp this year was Jumanji and the SLT (Senior Leadership Team) took every opportunity to incorporate it, with exercises like a Jumanji-themed obstacle course, shelter building to hide from big cats, and of course, a Jumanji movie night. The staff and SLT had been planning for the camp since the first week of term and their hard work paid off. This camp would not have been possible without them. The cadets had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to the next one.
