Captain of Debating – Chelsea Shi

Captain of Mock Law – Emma Parsons

Captain of Public Speaking – Joy Ye

Captain of Model United Nations – Mulan Xu

Language Arts’ Prefect – Isabella Cameron

Thank you for your outstanding contributions, especially over the past year. Language Arts is growing, and we would not have had such a successful year without your leadership. Thank you for your passion and commitment. LA is a better place because of you. You will not be forgotten, and you leave a lasting legacy. We now have 54 Debating teams. We now have the rich legacy of our PMUN Annual Winter Interschool conference. We had a national winner in Public Speaking this year and we have three wonderful Mock Trial offerings and Emma also coached our Mock Mediation team having been to Grand finals twice herself in her time here. Chelsea, Joy, Emma and Mulan, we are glad you are moving to Year 12. See you round. Isabella, all the best for your HSC – see you when you are back coaching!

Farewell Year 12

Farewell to all our amazing Year 12 students. You have been part of our special Language Arts family for many years, and we have valued every second of your time with us. Continue to use your voices and uphold Pymble’s values. Thank you for all you have given us. You mentored others in covid when Zoom and Team debates took centre stage and you have always been ready to give back. You have been wonderful role models. All the best for the HSC and the years beyond. We hope to see some of you return as coaches.

Archdale Debating

Archdale concluded with the Grand Final at MLC, Burwood. Unfortunately, our Intermediate team was defeated but it was a great debate with some impressive rebuttal and excellent content.

Congratulations to Maya Garg who is a member of the Archdale Representative team. Maya’s season is ongoing.

Sydney Social Debating (SSD)

Thanks to all our Social Debaters for a great season. Thanks also to our coaches Nikita Serban, Jessica Xu, Averie Sun and Sophie Guo, Angela Tao and Jacqueline Zhu, Lauren Korenblyum and Amy Zhang. Thanks also to our adjudicators and university student coaches Becky Huang, Tim Lan and Sai Suriadeepan. Mr Daniel Judd also deserves a special bouquet! This competition has now concluded.

International Debating Championships

We look forward to welcoming all IDC debaters. This competition commences in Term 4.

Debating Auditions

These will be held in Term 4. Stay tuned!

Knox Model United Nations

Knox Grammar school has commenced an afterschool MUN program, each Thursday, 4.00pm to 5.00pm. Pymble MUN students have been invited. Please email our MUN Captain Mulan Xu or Mrs Hubbard, if you are interested. Mrs Hubbard will attend Knox each Thursday for the program. Please note that students are to make their own transport arrangements.

Other MUN Competitions

Following from the success of our inaugural Winter PMUN conference. Other schools are now offering MUN conferences. Please note that if Pymble students register individually for these events, they are to wear business attire, (Black pants or skirt and blouse) rather than school uniform as these are not Pymble organised events.

UN Youth Junior Leadership Conference

Best wishes to students attending the Junior Leadership conference this weekend. We hope you enjoy meeting new friends, and we know you will find this an enriching activity.

Legacy Public Speaking

Congratulations to Jenny Xu who progressed to the State Semifinal of Legacy, which was held in State Parliament House, Macquarie Street, on Friday 15 September. Well done, Jenny!

UN Voice of Youth

Registrations are now open. Students and parents, please email Mrs Hubbard to register interest in this competition. Please note that Pymble will host a morning heat on 20 October. Pymble will register all interested students as a group. This is a fabulous opportunity. Students are asked to present a prepared speech outlining a solution to a local or global problem. Their presentation will be followed with two impromptu questions relating to their proposal. Once we have a list of names, topics will be released. The cost of this competition is $35.00 to be charged to accounts in Term 4 and auditions will not be held. This is an open competition with unlimited entries.

Festival of Speech

This year’s Festival of Speech will be held on 21 October at Ravenswood and will not include Debating or Drama sections.

Thanks

Thank you to all the Language Arts family, parents, coaches and students, for another busy and enriching term! Have a wonderful break.
