Archdale Debating
Archdale Shield Year 9 competed in the Semi-Finals at Abbotsleigh last Tuesday. Unfortunately, they were defeated but it was a great debate on the future of AI. Well done Students on making it to the Semi-finals.
Archdale Invitational Virtual Intermediate team competed in the Grand Final at MLC on 5 September. Results to be released.
Congratulations to Maya Garg who is a member of the Archdale Representative team. Maya had her first representative debate this week and we look forward to hearing of the team’s progress.
Sydney Social Debating (SSD)
SSD competition has been going smoothly and we are pleased to offer this skill building option to our beginning Year 6 to 10 debaters. We are grateful to our keen student coaches who are doing a wonderful job. Thanks to Nikita Serban, Jessica Xu, Averie Sun and Sophie Guo, Angela Tao and Jacqueline Zhu, Lauren Korenblyum and Amy Zhang. Thanks also to our adjudicators and university student coaches Becky Huang, Tim Lan and Sai Suriadeepan. Mr Daniel Judd also deserves a special bouquet!
International Debating Championships
Registrations are now closed. If your daughter is not yet registered, please contact Co-curricular Administrations as soon as possible. This competition commences in Term 4.
Model United Nations (MUN)
Knox Grammar school has commenced an afterschool MUN program, each Thursday from 4.00pm to 5.00pm. Pymble MUN students have been invited. Please email our MUN Captain Mulan Xu or Mrs Hubbard, if you are interested. Mrs Hubbard will attend Knox each Thursday for the program. Please note that students are to make their own transport arrangements.
Legacy Public Speaking
Congratulations to Jenny Xu who has been selected to progress to the State Semi-final of Legacy which will be held in State Parliament House, Macquarie Street, on Friday 15 September.
UN Voice of Youth
Registrations are now open. Students and parents should email Mrs Hubbard to register interest in this competition. Please note that Pymble will host a morning heat on 20 October. Pymble will register all interested students as a group. This is a fabulous opportunity. Students are asked to present a prepared speech outlining a solution to a local or global problem. Their presentation will be followed with two impromptu questions relating to their proposal. Once we have a list of names, topics will be released. The cost of this competition is $35.00 to be charged to accounts in Term 4 and auditions will not be held. This is an open competition with unlimited entries.
Festival of Speech
This year’s Festival will be held on 21 October. Auditions will be held for some select sections. Students should watch the portal for lunchtime audition dates and details. This year’s Festival will not include Debating or Drama sections.
