Many girls were excited to be back creating music together and becoming reacquainted with their instruments. Some collected dust over the holidays (ahem!), whilst others felt quite at ease. Music parts have been distributed and we encourage our students to please practise their parts. It might be just a few bars where they have trouble, or it might be used as a warm up to get the notes “under your fingers”. Our tutors are well versed in providing assistance for you to ensure you are able to play your part. Our ensembles work on the premise that practice is done at home, rehearsing is done as a group. The sound is very different in a group compared to being alone so we use the time in rehearsal to work on producing a brilliant sound with lots of phrasing and dynamic variation. Therefore “note bashing” is not something we have time for.

Storerooms: Please look after the instruments in the storerooms.

Sport clashes: For new girls, please know that we have a relationship with the sport department whereby your daughter is permitted to attend one sports training session in order to also be able to attend her music rehearsal. Your daughter will not be “dropped” because she is committed to another area of her co-curricular education. Any issues should be directed to Mrs Turner on sturner@pymblelc.nsw.edu.au

Congratulations

Joy Yin in Year 8 recently completed her LTCL Trinity College Examination on piano. Joy received a Distinction for this exam, achieving a very impressive 92. Joy continues to thrive as a piano player, extending her skills to the harpsichord. If you would like to listen to Joy, please click here to hear her perform Ravel’s Jeux D’eau.

Private music lessons

All music lessons at the College have now commenced and your tutor should have been in contact to organise lessons. Parents are asked to liaise directly with your daughter’s tutor regarding timetabling and payment. Late payments will be forwarded to me, and subsequently to Finance. Girls are asked to inform their class teacher that they have a lesson and to make up any work missed.

Save the dates

February 15: CONCERTO COMPETITION – 7:00 pm in the Music Gallery. Please note error in timing from last week’s newsletter.

We are introducing the Concerto Competition and have 4 of our fine musicians from Year 12 performing in the 1st round of the Concerto Competition. Mr Paul Dyer AO – Artistic Director of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra will be adjudicating and providing feedback. We encourage as many aspiring musicians to attend this event and connect with Mr Dyer.

February 25– 26: Junior School Music Camp – All students involved in the Junior School band and strings program are required to attend this camp. Information will be sent through soon.

March 31 – Senior School Ensemble Concert – 6:30pm on Gloucester Lawn: Bring your picnic rugs/chairs and dinner and enjoy the sonorous tones of your daughter as she brings to life some wonderful music to serenade you whilst you eat.
