Rugby Sevens
On Saturday, our Rugby players took part in the first Rugby Sevens matches of the season. It was the First Nations Round where players took the field against tough Gordon and Lindfield teams. The morning started with a Smoking Ceremony and dance. We moved up to James Kelso Field to watch the mighty Juniors play. It was a solid start to the match with Skye Macleod (Year 8) streaking away scoring a 60m try. Closely followed by Lily Mancey (Year 8) showing some blistering pace down the sideline to score Pymble’s second try. In the second half Gordon played some great catch up footy and managed to score four unanswered tries. It was a great first hit out for our girls. Special mentions to Mie Naito (Year 8) for her defensive effort and work rate around the field, Abigail Pisani (Year 7) playing her first match in Pymble colours was solid in defence and made some great breaks, and Alessia Calvani (Year 8) for great aggression and dominant tackles.
Our Pymble Rugby 16s took the field against a tough Gordon outfit, with many girls on the bench which was amazing to see. It was a tight first half with Pymble missing several opportunities to score. Unfortunately, the second half was a different story and Gordon finished the half scoring several tries taking the match convincingly. Great matches were had by Olianna Tighe (Year 9) and Abby Smith (Year 9) with some barnstorming runs, Rose Kirkby (Year 9) and Mika Naito (Year 10) with some bone rattling defence and Lucy McLean with some smooth hands through the backline. Special mentions also to Wyntah Woodroffe-Mullholland (Year 9) who played her first match for Pymble and made some great carries over the advantage line. The Gordon team are during State Champs training, so it was an amazing performance from our Pymble players!
The Pymble Senior girls took on a strong Lindfield outfit and the first half was scoreless. Sophie Livingstone (Year 11) broke the deadlock finishing some great teamwork with a strong carry over the line, taking two defenders with her. Gordon, however, was too strong on the day and took the match 4 tries to 1. Notable mentions to Lucy Robertson (Year 12) and Asha Goddard (Year 12) who were instrumental in attack. Arabella Smithyman (Year 11) was a rock in defence making some very dominant tackles. Aspen Moore (Year 11) did not stop throughout the whole match making some strong runs down the middle and chopping the opposition down in defence.
All in all, it was a great day for our Pymble players, even though the results were not in our favour, our teams got minutes on the field and came off with a smile on their faces!
