From the Upper School
A message from Mr Riley, Head of Upper School
We had a fabulous day at the Athletics Carnival late last week. Whilst it was a cold start for our Year 9s up at James Kelso Field at 7.00am, it did not deter us, and it was fantastic to be able to cheer on our amazing athletes and to see so many students participating in the non-competitor races and events. I also loved seeing the amazing spreads of food being shared between friends, self-cooking noodle pots, and new card games that I had never seen before!
On the theme of competing, I could not help but be drawn to this recent interview by Giannis Antetokounmpo discussing ‘steps to success’. With so many talented young people at Pymble it can be tempting to think that not coming first, not being in the top class, missing out on a position or missing out on a great mark is a failure. Whilst about sport, Giannis’ interview is applicable to life and really helps to show that we all have good days and bad days, that these small developments are building blocks along the journey, and that, ultimately, if you want to be successful you must keep returning to the arena.
So, in closing I wanted to say a massive thank you to our girls and our parents for supporting this wonderful event and for helping to build some Pymble pride. It was great to see you in the arena!

A big shout of to Jahle Tez in Year 9 who, together with her Year 11 and 12 counterparts, put on a fabulous fundraiser for UNICEF supporting the those impacted by the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. The students sold gozleme, sweet treats and taught new painting techniques, and raised over $1500.

This week we also welcomed four French Exchange students from Colmar and Lyon. Bienvenue!
