Deb Walsham, Head Coach of Athletics
igsa Athletics Championships
Pymble dominated another year of igsa Athletics, maintaining our winning streak since 2015.
The championships were under threat by the relentless rain, and while the heats of the 800’s and hurdles were wet, it did little to dampen our results and spirit. The strong performances in the heats on Thursday night set the tone for what was to come. By Friday morning, the scarlet, navy and white were giving it their all out on the track and field. Our girls ran, jumped and threw with determination and courage.
It was a huge haul of trophies! Luckily, we had Jack Pennington on hand to carry the bucket of trophies home. Pymble took out:
- Overall Point Score (including Para)
- Point Score (excluding Para)
- Para Champions – a phenomenal achievement led single handedly by Sybella Warton (Year 12)
- Division 1 Point Score
- Intermediate Relay Champions
- Senior Champion Point Score – Samara Bond (Year 12)
There were many standout moments, but two girls also secured new meet records. Sybella was unstoppable, breaking two records in the 100m and 200m. Rachel Schwulst (Year 11) ran a beautiful 800m, leading from start to finish, breaking the old record convincingly.
The support was just as impressive. A big thank you to our Year 7’s who came out in full voice, cheering on the girls. And of course, the girls’ number one supporter, Dr Hadwen, was there all day cheering the team on.
Finally, a big thank you to our amazing coaches whose guidance, commitment, and belief in the girls made these results possible. Thank you also to the sport staff for their constant support, with a special shout out to Katie Edwards (Head of Sport), who managed the dual role as Athletics convenor for the event – leading yet another smooth and successfully run carnival.
And last but certainly not least, a heartfelt thank you to our amazing Athletics co-ordinator, Samantha Dale. Samantha continues to inspire our girls not only through her achievements as an international competitor, but her tireless dedication behind the scenes of all thing’s athletics. Her passion and professionalism keep our program running at the highest level, and we are so grateful.
