Music
All ensembles in the Senior School commenced this week and it was sheer joy to hear the dulcet tones of our string, choral and band programs running again. The students were able to sight read their way through new repertoire, and for some new students, it was like watching deer in the headlights! Our ensembles are large, but they are welcoming. To all the new girls, welcome! We want you in our midst and look forward to making music merriment with you.
Congratulations

Private lessons
The music department has employed the services of specialised tutors in several instruments and voice. These tutors are highly qualified and teach at many schools. Please understand that they work on specific days with us and they have been instructed to rotate students. This should alleviate missing classes more than once in a term. Despite the science saying how good music is for students’ learning, I do appreciate some parents are concerned their daughter is missing class. Our academic staff support the music tuition and understand that sometimes your daughter may miss a class or have to leave halfway through a lesson. The teachers are approachable in all cases, so please do encourage your daughter to ask for work missed and let me know if there are any concerns. Priority is given to Senior students for lunch/after school lessons.
Save the Dates:
Thursday February 15 Concerto Competition – 6.30pm in the Music Gallery
This year we have 10 musicians competing for the coveted glory of being crowned the Concerto Competition winner and have the privilege of working with our Symphony Orchestra to perform later in the year. Kimbali Harding (CEO of Australian Youth Orchestra) and Alexandra Osborne (Associate Concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra) will be our adjudicators. We encourage as many aspiring musicians to attend this event and connect with these two wonderful musicians. A poster with a link will be sent through the portal. There is no fee, but we need to have tickets booked so we know how many people will be seated with us.
