From the Head of Senior School

This week both Years 11 and 12 have heard presentations from Paul Dillon (DARTA). He provides the students with the most recent and accurate information regarding drug and alcohol education.

Our Year 11s girls have also set out on their annual Retreat today, which includes seminars with Brent Sanders on personal safety and Kathryn Taylor, who is speaking about female leadership. The girls are also engaging in team building activities, some reflective and story sharing sessions with their Compass teachers and working on understanding their motivations.

My sincere thanks to the team of staff attending the Retreat over the three days and our administration team who have worked hard to make this event happen.

Year 11 Information Night

Just a reminder that next Tuesday night we are having our Year 11 Information Night which begins at 7.00pm in the KM Senior Centre. This is an opportunity to meet up with your daughter’s Compass teacher and hear from the Deputy Head of Senior School, our Deputy Principal – Students, the Head of Secondary Wellbeing, the Futures team, our Lead Psychologist and the Director of Studies. I am sorry to not be in attendance on the evening. I am having a minor surgery and will be recovering at this time. However, I do look forward to meeting our new Year 11 families soon.

Mentoring

We have also now formally launched the Senior School mentoring program to both Years 11 and 12. Senior students are offered the option of working with a mentor – a senior member of staff who is willing to meet individually with the girls to discuss their long-term goals and challenges.  The mentoring partnership is a structured one-to-one relationship that focuses on the requirements of the student, or mentee.  The relationship can be described as ‘walking alongside’ a younger person with the goal or aim of assisting that person to achieve their potential, in a supportive environment.

Students in both years have been invited to sign up for this voluntary program if they are interested – many Year 12 girls are continuing with their mentors from last year. I would really encourage all students to take this opportunity to invest in themselves.
