Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made headlines around the world this year. ChatGPT, created by AI research company OpenAI, launched in late November 2022 and can produce natural language (such as emails and essays) unlike anything we have seen before.

It is not only the written word that can be produced by AI; other services or products can create art, music, and even generate code. Some experts and thought leaders are claiming that AI is set to disrupt the world.

We are keen to understand how AI can amplify the learning of our students.

Rest assured that our exceptional teaching staff has already begun exploring the possibilities of AI in the classroom. Moreover, our Director of Innovative Technologies, Mr Anthony England, has been leading the charge with quality professional learning experiences for staff.

Our aim is to utilise AI as a tool in learning, where appropriate, and engage in meaningful dialogues with students about ethical usage and the importance of fact-checking.

We look forward to sharing more about AI as it relates to learning within future newsletter entries.

NAPLAN – Years 3, 5, 7 and 9

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be administered in Term 1 from 2023 onward. This decision was made nationally to ensure schools had access to student achievement data as early as possible.

NAPLAN also intends to evolve its reporting to parents, students and schools.

More information about the new reporting, and the upcoming test arrangements, will be communicated via the Junior School and Secondary School to parents/carers of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 so please ensure that your contact details are correct via the Parent Portal.
