Work Experience Stories
Over the summer break, recent Pymble graduates from Year 12 (2023) participated in work experience at Arup, a global firm of engineering consultants, designers, development planners and project managers. Alice Windybank, Ning Ning Jin and Abigail Taylor spent a week at the Arup headquarters in Sydney.
Hear about their experiences below:
Thank you so much for setting up the work experience week with Arup!
Abby, Alice and I really, really enjoyed it. We learned so much about the industry and all the different disciplines within engineering and architecture from so many different people. It was super interesting to see all the projects they were working on and all the behind-the-scenes that goes into their designs.
I don’t think I can share anything about the specific projects because many were confidential (which was also super cool to be let in on!). We got to see the behind-the-scenes for all the different disciplines within engineering and architecture, and met many people in the industry who were very passionate about their work. Facades, drainage, and hydraulics engineering were just a couple of the niches we got to experience and learn more about. Arup is also super big on sustainability so it was really interesting to see how that shines through and is taken into consideration during each step of their design process.
I feel so much more excited to actually start uni now and have a much better idea of what fields I can go into in the future! It was such a rewarding and special week, I’ll never forget it. – Written by Ning Ning Jin (2023)
