Assessment and Semester 2 Reporting in Stages 4 & 5<\/h4>\n

Each Semester, the College publishes an academic report to parents and carers about each student\u2019s learning outcomes. Teachers are currently preparing Semester 2 reports.<\/p>\n

The New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) requires all schools in NSW to report on grades and reportable outcomes as part of their ongoing commitment to improving student learning outcomes. To do this, teachers must use their professional judgement to assess their students\u2019 work and provide an overall grade based on their assessment of the student\u2019s performance. This means that a student\u2019s grade needs to be determined using a range of evidence, not just one or two formal assessments.<\/p>\n

Our teachers will use their professional judgement to make an overall assessment of a student\u2019s typical performance based on all the evidence available for the year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In our Assessment Handbooks, students will have their \u201cSemester Two Grade reported based on learning activities, practicals and formal tasks for the year<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\"Students were advised of this at the beginning of the year. Teachers will make a balanced and informed assessment of a student\u2019s typical performance against the Common Grade Scale and the Course Performance Descriptors published in the Assessment Handbooks. By doing so, they can provide a comprehensive report that reflects a student\u2019s academic progress at the end of the Year.<\/p>\n

\n

Stage 4 & 5 Awards<\/h4>\n

On Friday, 8 December, the College will hold the Stage 4 (9 to 10:30 am) and Stage 5 (11:30 am to 1:00 pm) End of Year Awards Assemblies. Several College special awards and Sporting Awards will be presented. In terms of Academic Awards, the following will be presented:<\/p>\n

Academic Merit Awards<\/h5>\n

Awarded for consistent and\/or improved effort by students. Awarded by each class teacher for each subject.<\/p>\n

Academic Achievement Awards<\/h5>\n

Awarded to students that achieved an \u2018A\u2019 grade in 3 to 5 subjects in Semester 2.<\/p>\n

Academic Excellence Awards<\/h5>\n

Awarded to students that achieved an \u2018A\u2019 grade in 6 or more subjects in Semester 2.<\/p>\n

\n

Changes to Stage Year 7 and 8 Music and Visual Arts in 2024<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>Next year, Year 7 students will participate in Sydney Catholic Schools Amadeus Music Education Program. The program provides students with high-quality music education to learn an instrument in group tuition and to perform in ensembles. The program will be delivered during timetabled Music lessons.<\/p>\n

To facilitate this program, a timetable change will be made next year, where Stage 4 Music and Visual Arts will move from a semesterised program to a yearly program. This change will be made for students in Year 8 next year.<\/p>\n

Year 8 students will study Music and Visual Arts for the full year in 2024.<\/p>\n
