In a school environment or at home, they can be hard to detect and identify.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are many misconceptions around vaping, including that it\u2019s just \u2018water vapour\u2019 or that they are \u2018safe\u2019 but this is not true. There are numerous physical and mental health risks associated with vaping, including lung disease, or the nicotine in many vapes causing long-lasting damaging effects on young people\u2019s brain development.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>What are the dangers?<\/b><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The biggest misunderstanding about vapes is that they are harmless compared to cigarettes. This is not true. Vapes are not safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many vapes that are labelled as nicotine-free, contain nicotine.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">More facts:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many vapes contain nicotine making them addictive.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The nicotine in one vape can equal 50 cigarettes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teens who vape are 3 times more likely to take up smoking.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vaping has been linked to serious lung disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E-liquids can contain many harmful chemicals. They are just not listed on the pack.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>School rules<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vaping and smoking cigarettes are treated in the same way in Sydney Catholic Schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Smoking (including vaping) on school premises, including school buildings, gardens, sports fields and car parks, is prohibited. They might talk about wanting to be healthier or fitter and become obsessive about checking the nutritional content of what they are eating.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They might become irritable or anxious around dinner time.
